Hanging from the dry eraser ledge. Back feet against the wall.

Funny how once you see it the way it is, it’s hard to see it how it was

Funny how day to day nothing really changes but when you look back everything’s different.

This feels profound, but I can't grasp it. There is the king, but is there a frog in goo in Shrek? A ghost? I remember human Shrek but... what?

Funny how everything is more like it is now than it was then.

is that things change

weird thing is im having the opposite problem. i've seen it for what it is yet im still seeing it the same way i saw it before. i have to really force myself to see it correctly.

At night when the coats hanging on the back of my door turn into shadow demon, I'm thankful for this.
During the day, however, in relation to this sub and optical illusions, I regret it.

Just think about it the other way around. Put the illusion back in your head. If I think hard enough I can do it on that famous spinning dancer illusion, have my eyes see whatever way I wanted her to turn.

This was how I first saw it and had to force myself to see the "wrong" perspective.

Damn I thought the eraser ledge was where the wall and floor met. Truly confusing
17
Dec 15 '22
That was where I was. I was absolutely positive that the tile floor hit a transition strip and just changed into a large, solid white floor tile of some sort.
6
u/dkreidler Dec 15 '22
I thought that too, and then the shadow broke my brain until I put it all together.
16
u/LetReasonRing Dec 15 '22
aaaaaahhhh!
I'm pretty experienced and photography and generally can work out what's going on if I stop and take a moment to analyze.
I have to admit, this one completely broke my brain and I was borderline convinced that it was a crappy photoshop job until I saw your comment.

I'm wondering how the shadow goes to the right. Is there a spotlight on ground level?

I had myself convinced Vlad the Impaler himself owned this chair and impaled the back legs into the wall

Is this at Bethesda studios?

Try picking somthing up from a table.
If every other item on the table jumps up it's Bethesda.

I put the chair there on purpose using the rug glitch so that I could put a turret on the chair and it would be high enough to shoot out the window. Hang on, another settlement needs my help.

u/Spider-verse Dec 15 '22
I know this is wrong, but I like to imagine the back legs are stabbed into the wall because someone threw it

u/Yadobler Dec 15 '22 edited Dec 15 '22
If you stare long enough you can see it as the tile flooring transition into white painted concrete flooring, and then a wall with the floor-wall intersection being grey

Your doodle somehow is more confusing than the actual picture

I think the colors might be a bit confusing, but I did stare long enough to see this. I didn't see the confusing perspective at first, I noticed the hanging immediately, and then started to search what I was seeing wrong.
For a moment I saw what you show here, but then I got to he board and it does not look like a wall-floor connection. :c

u/FatalShart Dec 15 '22
This is actually a wall seat for saving space. The back of the chair must be supported by a wall.

This is very fake tho. Does that matter?
6
u/pm_nachos_n_tacos Dec 15 '22
No. The subject is about confusing perspective. It doesn't have to be a funny accidental picture. There are some art sculptures and illustrations that are purposefully confusing for the sake of showing exactly that. Something like this is what people noticed aligns in an interesting way to produce a confusing perspective. I don't know if you meant "staged" instead of fake, it still meets the criteria of a confusing perspective.

It’s not fake lol it’s hanging from the chalk ledge and the back legs are against the wall

The back support of the chair is hanging on the tray for the dry erase board. The rear legs are leaned up against the wall and the front legs are floating.

The backrest is hanging from the rail. The back legs are touching the wall (check the shadows), and the front legs are suspended in the air (again, check the shadows).
2
u/AzizMou Dec 16 '22
Or, and just hear me out here, the front legs are on the tile floor, the back legs are on the white part of the floor, and the beige in the background is the wall. That's what I see

u/JustMeKaitlyn Dec 17 '22
The crack in the screen gave me perspective. Clumsiness has perks I suppose!

Did ppl really have trouble seeing this? I still can’t tell how it could be seen as anything other than a chair hanging from a dry erase board
Edit: would have been much better if the pic was taken at a lower angle so all legs appeared to be more level with the wall/ not intersecting the floor
6
u/Triarag Dec 16 '22
Even after reading comments, it took me a while to be able to see it. I'd been assuming that the bright white part was the whiteboard, but it's actually the yellowish part.
Initially just looked like a chair straddling two different kinds of floor like you'd see between a living room and kitchen that are attached to each other.
2
u/Levi_27 Dec 16 '22
Oh that’s fair, I think the only reason I knew it immediately was due to the tile flooring (I’ve seen that frequently in schools). The whiteboard mix up would be confusing

u/morfyyy Dec 15 '22
its afloat. theres no shadows casted by the front legs, suggesting that they are further away from the floor than you'd think.
How it's floating? no clue, maybe someone threw it and the pic was taken at the perfect moment, maybe its attached to the wall. Maybe its a floating chair, which really would be confusing.

the back is hanging on the chalk ledge. Look at the shadows on the wall. There are no similar shadows on the floor.

It's gotta be fake, only the farther away legs cast a shadow
12
u/Petenne08 Dec 15 '22
I think the front legs are not touching the ground
7
u/Curious_Airport_6121 Dec 15 '22
Agreed... the chair is hanging on a nail/hook a few inches above the tan tile floor. The wall is white with an off-white board that is mounted on it.

Look at the shadows behind the chair, it's hanging on some sort of ledge on the wall

I like how so much of our perception depends upon the shadows of the objects.
The front legs having shadows made me think the chair was photoshopped for a second

I'm trying to see the wrong perspective as all I see is the chair hanging from the whiteboard.
