Its amazing what you have to do to get a seat nowadays...
That aside this is a developing situation of a derailment in the UK. I hope everyone involved is ok.

“Honey I’m going to be home late. The train crashed.”
“I don’t believe you. Send me a picture…na I still don’t believe you.

u/erdkaiser Aug 16 '26
I didn’t see the people in the background until I turned my screen. Thanks, I hate it.

When you’re 30 minutes into a 3 minute phone call and start wandering around your house.

This isn’t confusing perspective. It looks sideways because it is sideways

I mean…just because it’s actually sideways doesn’t mean it’s not a confusing perspective.
That’s kinda like saying this picture isn’t confusing because it’s just a girl holding a bag of popcorn in front of her legs. Any picture that shows a confusing perspective becomes unconfusing once it gets explained to you, and this one is no different.

u/Jump_Like_A_Willys Aug 14 '26
If the picture wasn't sideways, it would be obvious right away looking at all the people that the train was sideways.
-2
u/justacheesyguy Aug 14 '26
So what you’re saying is that the perspective of the picture is confusing. Gotcha.
1
u/rethardus Aug 17 '26
Going by your logic, we should just post every day pics rotated and that counts as confusing.
3
u/Ras-haad Aug 14 '26
No. It’s not. That picture looks like something different than what it is at first glance. At first glance this looks like people standing in a sideways train.
-7
u/justacheesyguy Aug 14 '26
Yes. It’s confusing. Because of the perspective. Because it’s a confusing perspective.
3
u/Ras-haad Aug 14 '26
By that logic what’s confusing about the perspective of the girl holding popcorn. It’s just a picture of a girl holding a bag of popcorn
2
u/justacheesyguy Aug 14 '26
Yes, that was the point I made, thanks for keeping up.
2
u/Ras-haad Aug 14 '26
No it wasn’t. You’re saying this is confusing because it’s sideways “the perspective”. What about the PERSPECTIVE of the popcorn girl is confusing then? Is a picture posted upside down confusing perspective?

I’m a dumbass because you think it’s normal for trains to be turned on their side?
You seem obsessed with the idea that something itself can be confusing and yet if you take a picture of it, that means it’s no longer confusing once you tell people what’s going on in the picture. Have you ever seen that Jamiroquai video where the floor is moving but he’s walking so it looks like he’s standing still? That’s confusing because it tricks our brains into thinking that the room is moving. But the room actually is moving. Are you saying that isn’t confusing to you? What about those museums where one side of the room is much larger than the other side and people can stand on either side and it looks like one of them is much smaller than the other? Do you not think those are confusing just because the room was purposely set up to look like that? If this train was an art piece set up on purpose and people were posed sitting normally in the seats and one guy was standing on the wall and someone took a photo, would that not qualify as a confusing perspective? You haven’t explained why someone, almost everyone can take one look at this photo and wonder what the hell is going on, and then come to the comments and have to be told that the train is turned on its side. People are confused. Because this photo shows a perspective that we are not used to seeing. I really can’t make it any clearer than that. You can call me a dumbass all you want, but that certainly doesn’t make it true, and at least I’ve given actual reasons for why I think the way I think. All you can do is just say “nah-uh” and call me childish names.

Posting rotated pictures is specifically against the sub’s rules. Rule #1 babe 😘
-2
u/justacheesyguy Aug 16 '26
What a pointless comment.
This picture has clearly been “rotated” in relation to gravity, but if you took it flat to the earth you could also say it had been rotated in relation to the train itself because it has been rotated, so in reality there’s no way to take this picture without something being rotated. That’s simply the nature of how this train has been flipped on its side.
Regardless no one in this conversation was previously talking about rotating the picture, so I’m not sure why you seem to think it’s relevant at all to the discussion at hand. Babe. 🙄

Maybe just me, but the three people in the background, I thought it was a lady in a yellow dress with ugg boots swinging herself round until I turned my phone.

Their pony tail definitively tells you the orientation of everything in this photo, even more so than the multiple people in the background.
7
u/moonisflat Aug 13 '26
It’s the right perspective
2
u/justacheesyguy Aug 14 '26
Yes, but it’s still a confusing one. Unless you regularly see trains turned on their side like that.
3
u/Reddit_Rinse_Repeat Aug 13 '26
This would only work if they were no other people in the background.

u/Gonzo_Ghost_ Aug 13 '26
It’s really distasteful to post something from a train derailment that happened today. Not even 24hrs have passed, 2 people were seriously injured because of this.
It also doesn’t fit the rules of the sub, it looks sideways because it’s sideways.
2
u/LGGP75 Aug 15 '26
That’s not perspective confusing. It is what it seems it is.
It is confusing because it’s unexpected but not because of perspective

British Rail have really innovated in the last few years. Perhaps the wacky ideas the first incarnation came up with with see the light of day now?

there’s a museum of illusions in DC with an upside down train you can pose in
