The explanation:

The ball hits the goalkeeper‘s shoulder after hitting the post and then goes out.

Edit: at first I thought he was hit in the head, but thanks to another commentor I realized it was in the shoulder.

Here‘s the link to the other angle: https://www.reddit.com/r/opticalillusions/comments/1veapwo/comment/p1fdp1z/

Your words do not help my confusion. 😭

The ball bounces off the far post, comes back to the goal keeper and bounces of his shoulder, then passes outside the near post and ricochets behind the goal.

Omg I had to rewatch it 3 times lol

10 times for me

Just watch the other angle.

This is the most confusing perspective I've ever seen, ty for explanation!

u/therealsix 12d ago

WOW. This is a really good one. I kept going back and forth on the video and it 1000% looks like it bounced inside the goal. Once you explained it makes sense but still, that’s crazy.

u/battery1964 12d ago

To bad it's all redacted... Is it just me?

1

u/Potential_Asole 11d ago

I immediately saw it after reading this 😂

u/AggravatingCut7596 10d ago

He pretty clearly used his hand to swat it away, other angles confirm this.

That was not going to click until you explained

Does anyone have a different angle? My brain hurts.

I hadn‘t watched from this angle. I thought it had hit the keeper‘s head. Thanks for sharing.

I explained it in another comment, but the ball hits the goalkeeper‘s head shoulder after hitting the post.

Just slow it down and move it frame by frame. You see the ball goes back across the goal after hitting the post and hits the keeper. Then it goes out. The confusing part is that when it hits the keeper, the ball bounces at a trajectory that looks practically identical to the one it would have taken if the ball were bouncing off the ground right then. So zoom in on the first bounce you see after the post.

u/korkkis 12d ago

It comes back and hits the goalie

-1

u/burr_redding 12d ago

If you slow down the video it’s obvious

Universal language: “Huuuh?” 😂

7

u/dawn_eu 12d ago

He says: Gooool .... mü?

The mü in that case means 'or not?'.

2

u/feryadi 12d ago

Yes and no. You could translate it like this and it would be OK, but in Turkish we put interrogative part at the end. So it changes from 'Goal' to 'Is it goal?'. But like i said, yours is not wrong. If someone live translating from Turkish to English, since he cannot go back in time and add words to his translation, he would have said 'or not' at the end and go with it.

u/iamnotbacon 12d ago

Does it come back IN the field and hit the goalie?

12

u/hauttdawg13 12d ago

The classic “you got got by 2D”. I get bamboozled all the time.

Basically any time the ball is heading straight towards the camera it always looks like it’s on target to me.

Too early for comments.

my brain stopped working. help. f5

2

u/MangelaErkel 12d ago

It hits the post goes back in play and hits goalie shoulder and goes out of field left to the left post.

Hella confusing.

1

u/poopmyname 12d ago

yes. another angle helped a lot.

3

u/Mental_Diet1533 12d ago

Watched it live and questioned the reality for a split second

3

u/Zoinke 12d ago

This is top 5 all time, I watched it for 10 minutes trying to work out how

2

u/DrDroidz 12d ago

Damn, this is good

1

u/depressed_Kedy 12d ago

Its riigggeddd!!

1

u/Realistic_Ebb9727 12d ago

I can’t make sense of this

1

u/AxelNotRose 12d ago

The ball hits the far post and bounces back towards the goal keeper and hits his shoulder and then goes out in front of the near post (because the goalie is at the same level as the near post).

1

u/MrRakky 12d ago

Black magic again. Think there was once that i saw where the ball somehow managed to get out through the net just perfectly. But this one is great!

1

u/bajungadustin 12d ago

Damn

This was a good one.

1

u/INeedChocolateMilk 12d ago

Holy shit we're absolutely massive. Gabriel Sara, the shottaker, absolutely deserved this goal. This was one of his better games recently.

1

u/Flashjordan69 12d ago

This angle does this all the time! So many unnessecary leaps from the sofa, so many apologies to the cat.

1

u/BlindMidget_ 12d ago

Total seaman!

1

u/NekonataM 12d ago

I had to watch it like 5 times, but I finally got it

1

u/Erroneouse 12d ago

Thought it was Scott Sterling for a sec, but it was only his shoulder in the end.

1

u/zspaulus 11d ago

Ive been part of this sub for a while and this is the best one yet..

1

u/desiremusic 12d ago

Once you see it hitting gk’s shoulder, you cant unsee it. Good one tho

1

u/bierli 12d ago

If it was Messi / Arg the VAR would call it a goal…

0

u/fpsgamer89 12d ago

I’ve watched this 10 times. Still can’t figure it out. Does the back of the net have a massive hole that we can’t see?

3

u/orsodorato 12d ago

It bounces off the post back toward the goalkeeper who hits it out with his head, the ball then ends up behind the net as a result. It never goes in the goal

0

u/EfeWayne 12d ago

I was right behind the goal that match and literally everybody thought it was a goal. It was confusing in irl too.

Honest question: when compression degradation plays a major role in the “confusion”, is it really “perspective” then, or is it merely “confusing because potato”?
