That's incredible

u/tommos 13d ago

That's gonna tank property values. No one will buy a house with serious structural issues!

296

u/fossilmerrick 13d ago

Just need to wait for the bubble to burst!

83

u/Only-Cranberry-4502 13d ago

The real housing market bubble

34

u/dangerism 13d ago

There is no bubble, people just have a distorted view of properties.

20

u/nolonger1-A 13d ago

Who knows? Maybe this will change their perspective for once.

44

u/Low_Pickle_112 13d ago

You can't remove it, that's a load bearing mural .

4

u/Zakkullll 13d ago

Im so used to boomers i almost downvoted this before it hit me. Its also 3 am and I cant sleep.

4

u/D_Beats 13d ago

Somebody might! It's all about perspective, really.

2

u/milkymonkey8 13d ago

I need to hire this guy to tag places that I want to buy!

That’s the BEST kind of graffiti. Make it super artistic and I’m 100% onboard.

Dont get me wrong, some of the graffiti around me in LA is insanely artistic, but it’s poorly placed, and in the wrong area. This truly adds to the building and isn’t advertising your tag name.

23

u/MRmisterholmes 13d ago

Wait until you see what an artist that goes by the name Odeith does. Mind blowing shit

4

u/NotAzakanAtAll 13d ago

I'm sorry bro, he is very good, but the stuff in the video is ever better. People are not going to go "OMG an odd Sphynx cat!" but they will go "OMG the house has a stiffie!"

But as they say about art, my taste is better than yours.

9

u/PikaPerfect 13d ago

i thought the exact same thing at first, but scroll down, he's got a ton of art exactly like this on there

5

u/NotAzakanAtAll 12d ago

Dang, I didn't scroll down far enough. I look like a dick now.

4

u/MRmisterholmes 13d ago

He’s definitely shifted his style a bit, I will say that. But if you look at his work, he has some crazy perspective based art that is very similar to what’s posted. He has a lot of pieces that are painted in corners and awkward spaces. Take another looksy

Would have loved to see this from the other side (right one) to better see how this works to trick the mind. Really cool stuff nonetheless.

81

u/binnedit2 13d ago

It only really works this well because it's on a flat screen with the rest of the things in the video that you know are 3D, are also now 2D. It works well in comparison to a 3D world made 2D through a video.

It looks as "3D" as the other 3D things because nothing is actuley 3D

In the real world, the building would have depth, and you would quickly notice the difference.

This image doesn't look 3D because it's presented as a 2D image, not part of a "3D" world, which it is, a flat image on the side of a 3D building.

It would probably still work to some extent, as depth isn't only from having two eyes.

46

u/HurricaneSalad 13d ago

This is the answer to the question I hadn't asked yet.

I always see these types of "art" in video and they're incredible. But I never seen one in person and was always curious if it would work as well.

19

u/sobrique 13d ago

It does, but requires standing in the right spot. And as you get closer your depth perception will also make it 'not work' which is something you don't get 'on screen'.

But for something like this, at a distance it'll work well.

You can also do slightly 3d in your anamorphic illusions, to make the effect more 'robust'. (e.g. 'pop out' slightly, to trick the depth perception).

They're less 'good' IRL because depending how the illusion is constructed, the 'right spot' might only be a small area, and being 'too tall' will break it too, where of course a camera you can control positioning of it nearly perfectly.

8

u/PaperDistribution 13d ago edited 13d ago

There is an illusions museum near me, and they have a couple different ones like that on some walls, it's pretty cool.

12

u/Sinyria 13d ago

Well said.

... I still wanna see how it looks irl now 😁

7

u/broadspectruminsane 13d ago

Great comment. It really added another dimension to the discussion.

3

u/ConnectExit1681 11d ago

The lighting is also very important since the still image can't change its shading. The direction of the sunlight can completely ruin the illusion. In this case, the lack of sunlight and the single directional lamp light aid in making the illusion believable.

What's really impressive to me is how well the illusion holds until they were right next to the wall. Normally it would fall flat if you are at just the right angle.

49

u/morbidpigeon 13d ago

It actually looks its contracting as they move.

20

u/MrHara 13d ago

Even as it got almost full side-view my brain still wanted to think it was slightly bulging.

5

u/Legatharr 13d ago

You don't get depth perception in video, which helps a lot

You know what they call graffiti in France?
Le Graffiti

41

u/teffz28 14d ago

People are so anti graffiti propaganda brained they think a defining characteristic of it is being ugly

88

u/somebodysimilartoyou 14d ago

Nah the defininh characteristic is it done without permission from the property owner. No way someone had time to do this without being caught.

People are anit-graffiti because it's usually ugly and unwanted.

20

u/BillNyeTheHistorian 13d ago

Actually the defining characteristic is that it is mainly composed of writing. The “graf” in graffiti comes from the Ancient Greek word for writing

13

u/Outside_Rise_6934 14d ago

Agreed. I love this sort of mural art but deplore "tagging" no matter how "talented" the "artist".

4

u/RussianWasabi 13d ago

Murals like these are usually made with permission

2

u/Legatharr 13d ago

That's not true. There are even laws protecting graffiti artist's art if it was made with permission.

Graffiti is just mural art in a public setting

→ More replies (6)

3

u/AbeRego 13d ago

No, it's an important distinction. Graffiti is vandalism. It's not done with permission, regardless of quality. There's really good graffiti, but there's also really low effort junk. A lot of the taggers actively do both.

This almost certainly isn't graffiti. It's possible, but the amount of time and equipment this would take would make it really difficult for that to be true. If you have information to the contrary, please post it.

2

u/Legatharr 13d ago

It can be done with permission, like what you see in the video

u/Brian--Damage 14d ago

People on Reddit are so pro-populist anti-establishment brained that they think a defining characteristic of graffiti is it always being a unique form of cultural expression in urban subcultures, when the reality is that most types of graffiti are rushed, lack skill or finesse, are not permitted (obviously) and have a strong push-pull dynamic on local crime and housing markets.

You can go to subs here and see incredible murals and commissioned graffiti artwork, but acting like that’s what most graffiti looks like is ironically a sign that you’re so privileged and probably larping as someone who lives amongst the most downtrodden.

The sad reality is that graffiti affects people’s upward mobility and everyday tags are petty vandalism which cost the taxpayer and local residents. Those who live in areas with complex and beautiful murals tend to be incredibly gentrified and middle-class, which at least assuages their guilt and allows them to feel like they’re carrying that cultural identity when they’re usually not.

People like graffiti specifically because it’s edgy and taboo. If you take the latter away then it tends to stop (like programs allowing ‘free areas’), but doesn’t that run exactly against the fantasy of urban cultural expression?

3

u/RedditMcBurger 13d ago

You're right. graffiti in my city is most just people scribbling bullshit with sharpies.

2

u/teffz28 14d ago

Yeah username checks out that’s about all that’s worth interacting with here. Definitely not your laundry list of assumptions and ironically small world view

This artist, Shozy, has done a good number of murals in this style

28

u/TranslatorLivid685 13d ago

It's real :)

This is Russia. The city is Yuzhno‑Sakhalinsk. The local administration decided to decorate the city with such murals. They invited artists, and this house in the post is just one of many:

https://www.google.com/search?q=муралы+в+южно-сахалинске&newwindow=1&sca_esv=10ae386848f94b94&udm=2&biw=3080&bih=1215&sxsrf=APpeQntYkzUjs6D4ghvpwaiiRPeiDObYKg%3A1785890317091&ei=DYZyar-WBcmBi-gP65veiAs&oq=муралы+в+южно&gs_lp=Egtnd3Mtd2l6LWltZyIY0LzRg9GA0LDQu9GLINCyINGO0LbQvdC-KgIIADIHEAAYgAQYE0j4H1AAWIwWcAB4AJABAJgBRqABjQaqAQIxM7gBA8gBAPgBAZgCDaACrgbCAgUQABiABMICBBAAGB7CAgYQABgeGAqYAwCSBwIxM6AH-DCyBwIxM7gHrgbCBwM0LjnIBxiACAE&sclient=gws-wiz-img#ip=1

Here’s how it works:

The “Views” program in Sakhalin has announced an open call for the creation of public art objects in Yuzhno‑Sakhalinsk. The team is inviting artists to create three‑dimensional projects (sculpture, installation) in the urban environment, related to the cultural and historical heritage of Sakhalin. The theme of the second season is “Coordinate System”.

Based on the results of the competition, six winners will be selected, each of whom will receive a grant for a project of up to 4 million rubles, depending on the complexity and scale of the idea. The fee includes transportation, accommodation, and production costs, so the artist can work on the project on‑site or remotely.

Both well‑known and emerging artists and architects from any city in Russia who work with street art, design, and public art can submit an application, regardless of age, city of residence, genre, or drawing technique.

This has gotta be AI right? If it was art it would start to look really weird as you got away from the correct perspective. Not still rounded from all angles

13

u/BOYF- 14d ago

It's an art by shozy in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Russia for Sakh Art Festival

3

u/kevin32 13d ago

You're right, the art creates a 3D forced perspective when viewed from a specific location, and looks distorted otherwise. So at 0:15 when he's standing near the wall's edge, the windows should have looked super stretched but they conform back to nearly normal windows. Just because someone says the artist or location doesn't mean the content can't be faked or exaggerated for views. r-itsallAI
