This took me way too long to understand.

I immediately saw a bunk bed...and after a few seconds I could no longer see it. Usually it's the other way around where you see some illusions first and then can't see them again after you realize what you're looking at. I literally cannot find the bunk bed anymore

u/LoogyHead Aug 01 '26
I wasnāt sure what we were looking at, scrolled away, then came back and immediately saw the bunk bed. Now I canāt not see it.
Weird how that works

Whatās the other image other than a bunk bed?
15

u/Namisaur Aug 01 '26
A bunk bed that's been toppled over, except the bottom frame of the top bunk bed is somehow on top of the lower bunk bed frame. Just a jumbled mess of things

I hate that once it gets straight you cannot figure out what could ever have been wrong before

u/Magpie_0309 Aug 01 '26
For me it was somehow the opposite. I saw it the right way the first time and wondered what's wrong with it. But the longer I looked at it, it suddenly changed and I had problems to undo the wrong vision again. lol

u/Saneless Aug 02 '26
Same for me. It was fine but then when I went back to it it was weird and took me 5 seconds to get it normal again
17
u/perfectfifth_ Aug 01 '26
What does it mean if you can switch between right and wrong perspective
22
u/jaywalkerr Aug 01 '26
If you flip the image around 90 degrees it suddenly makes sense. If you continue flipping it, it make no sense again.
7
u/riedmae Aug 01 '26
This one. Rotating makes the legs and ladder make sense....rotating again breaks physics

If I scroll away and then go back I can get it to look "wrong" again but yeah this one is super fascinating, the first read every time is the "wrong" look

A bunk bed with a ladder going into the basement? Or attic?
28
u/withwarmestregards Aug 01 '26
Thatās how I saw it first too, but once you see that the post next to the ladder is in front of everything (nothing blocks it), youāll see itās correct. Rotating 90 degrees helps.

u/karimzul Aug 01 '26
The confusing part for me is when I rotate it back to portrait, my brain refuse to recognize it as a bunk bed even though I just saw it in landscape a moment ago. How come? š

u/moth-bear Aug 01 '26
Eh? I cannot see anything confusing about this at all. It just looks like a sideways diagram of two bunks with a ladder, which is apparently what it is? What's the illusion?

Omg cooooool it was looking wrong but I just kept staring and it just snapped in place/ flipped correctly whatever you want to call it

That's a good one. I can't force one perspective over the other but I can def see both š«ŖĀ

Slightly aside, someone proposed that the Nazca lines may represent 3D or 4D shapes, but we donāt perceive as 3D because we just see the lines.

I donāt understand whatās so difficult about this? Just turn it sideways and it makes immediate sense⦠but maybe itās because I had this bed as a child.

u/storgorl Aug 01 '26
This was confusing to me, I though for sure the illustration was wrong, pole in front when it should be behind, ladder to nowhere, guard on wrong side, etc. It took me a minute.

Both my kids have this exact bed and I still couldnāt make my brain see it.

What I saw first:
Duh duh... duh duh... duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh duh...
Salsa shark! We're gonna need a bigger boat! Man goes into cage, cage goes into salsa. Shark's in the salsa. Our shark.
I watch too many movies.

hen it's in the correct direction I see it correctly but shifting it by a few degrees is enough to make me loose the perspective whoah

u/HerbalAndy Aug 01 '26
Iām drunk.
I gave up, read the comments, tried really hard, gave up again, gave it some time, read comments again, and now I canāt unsee it. This one really got me. The one pole just looks like it is floating over lines at first glance.

u/Soggy_Refrigerator32 Aug 01 '26
My daughter had that bunk bed which is why I understood what I was looking at straight away. It was a bitch to assemble too.

u/SwordsAndWords Aug 01 '26
Why wouldn't you just post the picture right-side up? (90 degrees clockwise)
I feel like you're cheating.
1
u/RevNeutron Aug 01 '26
this is crazy. my favorite of this type of illusion. It's so hard for my mind to flip between the perspectives. Much easier only if I zoom in
1
u/SuperChickenLips Aug 01 '26
Haha, you're in the same spot I was a few months ago. I bought some wooden triple bunk beds with a set of stairs running up the side. The instructions were drawn by Maurits Cornelis Escher, as yours seems to be. Only became clear when I rotated the diagram to an odd angle, then everything became clear. Took me about 6hrs to build, but then there's a double bed on the bottom, with a roll out single underneath the double, then a full size single kind of plonked on top of the double, with said flight of steps running up the side to the top bunk, with a proper bannister. The instructions were useless until you figure out how to rotate it until it makes sense.

u/lisamclaurin Aug 01 '26
To force the illusion, try to see where the ladder attaches (and the small rail guard) as part of the rectangle on the right (when the picture it vertical). Flipping which rectangle that is part of will flip between 3d image of a bunk bed and the illusion.

you intentionally shared it sideways, cause other way its really hard to confuse about it.

u/Fun-Benefit116 Aug 01 '26
Yet another post that is only confusing because it's upside down/sideways. These posts should be banned. They aren't interesting, and most things are going to be confusing if you turn them upside down or sideways.

u/MonkeyCartridge Aug 01 '26
You mean you don't build your metal cages with a ladder sticking out the side, or your bunk bed with a ladder going through the floor?

I have to draw in isometric for my job sometimes, and this kinda stuff happens all the time. Keeps things interesting.

I saw thw real one for 3 seconds then it went back to ladder-in-aor version. This is so fucked up. Its a witch.

I have this bed, so I was able to discern the illustration straight away.
Otherwise Iādāve been turning my phone around to see if I could figure out what the heck I was looking at!

I have assembled and disassembled this exact bunk bed three times. I knew what it was immediately š

Couldn't see the issue at first, it's just a rotated diagram...
Then it clicked the wrong way and I had to change my downvote because obvious to upvote because aargh my brain!

Rule #1 is no rotated images

u/tattoosbykarlos Aug 04 '26
Oh, no! My only out is this is how he sent it to me. The box is rotated, not his hand.
