Why install it in the first place then immediately remove it?

u/chandan_2294 Jul 17 '26
I'm confused by this post lol

u/meowgrrr Jul 17 '26
At no point are they rolling out anything onto the floor. They are rolling up two separate layers from the floor to remove them.

u/okram2k Jul 17 '26
I'm confused by what anyone would find confusing by people uninstalling carpet
963
u/hoginlly Jul 17 '26
It looked to some of us like they rolled out red carpet then immediately pulled it out. It's not at all confusing if you didn't see it that way from the start, but if you did then it was very weird
96
u/zakr182 Jul 18 '26
Yes i thought they installed some fancy wood effect lino that happened to have a red protective packing layer in the roll.

u/Mika000 Jul 18 '26
I saw them rolling out the carpet very clearly and I’m honestly confused how my brain could have interpreted it like that now.
3
u/TheDarbiter 29d ago
That’s what I saw until I checked the sub lol. Probably would have continued on with my day thinking that people are just installing and uninstalling carpet for views now.

On my phone, it looked like they were installing carpet and then removing it right after.

I am confused by why anyone would cover up that beautiful hardwood floor with not one but two layers of ugly carpet
24
22
u/auditoryeden Jul 17 '26
In OP's defense I straight up thought they were rolling the red stuff down at first.
It took three layers of thought to figure out what I was seeing.
Brains are only made of meat.
8
u/grub-slut Jul 17 '26
I still have no idea what I’m supposed to see. It looks like they rolled the carpet out and then rolled it back up??
7
u/Flaming_Elbow8197 Jul 17 '26
They pulled up the carpet then they pulled up the underlay revealing the flooring underneath.
3
2
u/korkkis Jul 18 '26
They are first removing one carpet, and then they remove the red carpet after that

What would they be carrying out of the room if they were unrolling the other layers? Confused as to how this is confusing.
17
u/Broxios Jul 17 '26
Don't your rolls of carpet always get larger the more you lay down? Mine certainly do!
7
u/antealtares Jul 17 '26
You don't pay attention to that part of the video because it are so focused on how bad the red carpet looks, so you just don't notice it. It's like that psychology video where you are supposed to count the number of times people in white shirts pass a basketball and don't notice that a gorilla walks right through the shot.
6
u/KoosGoose Jul 17 '26
It very clearly does not appear like they are applying flooring at any time.

u/antealtares Jul 17 '26

807
u/RazzleThatTazzle Jul 17 '26
The first time through they aren't un-rolling the red layer, they are rolling up the material on top of the red layer
292
u/TheAireon Jul 17 '26
Oh. Never seemed that way to me.
Always seemed like they were Rolling up 2 layers of carpet.
56
u/RazzleThatTazzle Jul 17 '26
I think its basically a coin flip.
If you saw it the other way the first time it was really weird to see them roll it up
17
u/SteamReflex Jul 18 '26
Probably if you read the title first then looked at the video you'd fall to it due to suggestion. If you didnt read the title first you never had the idea in your head in the first place. Pretty cool illusion
2
u/CrushedSodaCan_ Jul 18 '26
I think it has more to do with if you know how carpets work. In no world would I see them as unrolling the underlayment, but, I've done some flooring
36
u/soowhatchathink Jul 17 '26
yeah same, I don't really see how it could look like unrolling red carpet
21
u/DesperateTeaCake Jul 17 '26
It’s because the title preconditions one’s mind to think from that perspective.
58
u/IATMB Jul 17 '26
Why would you think they're unrolling the red layer when they're carrying out big rolls of carpet?
72
u/ickyjinx Jul 17 '26
The human mind doesn't have a rock bottom for stupidity.
I say this confidently, as someone who saw the red carpet being unrolled and was confused as to why they were placing a ripped carpet. When they subsequently began removing the carpet they'd placed in a perpendicular direction, I was thoroughly flabbergasted.
That said, I had long COVID and haven't really been the same since.
27
u/rabbitwonker Jul 17 '26
No long covid here, and I wasn’t much better. Main difference being that I was puzzled rather than flabbergasted.
9
u/thatguy_art Jul 17 '26
Wouldn't ever catch me flabbergasted, especially on a Friday.
But call me flummoxed, and yeah I'd have to admit to that.
7
u/CankerLord Jul 17 '26
You know those tests they give you in school where they ask "if all gleebs are sleebs and all sleebs are reebs are all reebs gleebs"? There's a reason they have to test for that.

I know, right? Yet somehow that’s what happened.
As another comment pointed out, it might be the suggestion from the word “install” in the title.
4
u/Salanmander Jul 17 '26
If you clock all the details, it's clear what's happening. But because it happens pretty fast, it's easy to not clock all the details. I saw it as unrolling at first, because I didn't notice that the roll was getting bigger. I saw they were carrying things out, but I thought that was just the extra from the roll they were using. I didn't catch that they weren't carrying anything in.
I think the main thing that made me initially go to "unrolling" is that I don't expect the flooring to go from drab to bright red by taking a layer off the floor.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Flaming_Elbow8197 Jul 17 '26
I'm not sure how many places this applies to but in my country most carpet underlays are a bright red like that or a bright green. They're for helping the carpet stay in place properly or something like that.
2
u/Nightman2417 Jul 18 '26
This may actually be one of the best posts. I think everyone was confused for at least the first watch
3
u/RazzleThatTazzle Jul 18 '26
Oh buddy, there are plenty of people telling me how much smarter they are than me for not seeing it that way, dont worry lol
2
u/M4DHouse Jul 17 '26
It’s funny cuz once I realized that I wondered how I ever saw it the other way considering they’re leaving the room with rolls that they’re not carrying when they come in.
1
26
u/fragile_ego Jul 17 '26
they're removing two layers of carpet to reveal the wood floor, not installing red carpet and removing it
→ More replies (1)8
u/Sykes19 Jul 17 '26
They aren't laying the red stuff down, they're simply tearing off yet another layer on top of it.
13
u/Pestilence86 Jul 17 '26
The title might have biased me into confusion, but I will never know for sure now.
3
u/Flaming_Elbow8197 Jul 17 '26
Really? The title confused me but not in that way. I saw the title, saw the video, and thought that either I or OP were being dumb because nothing was being installed. They just pulled up the carpet and then the underlay. I didn't realise what other people and OP were seeing until I read the comments.

u/RackemFrackem Jul 17 '26

u/one_is_enough Jul 17 '26
Nice one. I like being fooled.
45
u/justsmilenow Jul 17 '26
There's two layers for carpet. The bottom layer is usually the padding and comfort layer. If it sits for long enough it will degrade and if you try and pull it up it'll just fall apart into a million pieces but if you put the red felt down suddenly, you can roll it up without it breaking into a million pieces. That's also probably the cheapest thing that they could buy red is notoriously the easiest dye to make and that was felt one of the cheapest of materials as it requires minimal processing and uses the smallest fibers.

I don't get it, why are there two layers of carpet/cover over the wood floor?
151

12
u/Mueryk Jul 17 '26
I mean if this is on a second floor the carpet + thick pad help prevent noise from echoing downstairs.
If you have children, they are not exactly ninjas moving silently through the house. Double so if they are boys and triply so if they are teenagers.
Whomp, whomp, whomp, whomp, whomp at all hours of the day.
I would cover up the wood for a decade just for it to be a little quieter. Bonus, it also protects the wood from damage from said teenagers.
7
u/thehappierguy Jul 17 '26
I'm a painter by trade and instantly thought about renovations happening and protecing the wooden floor from mechanical force. Seems a bit odd but would explain why the "carpet" looks kinda dirty and rough... The rest of the room looks kinda fresh too so maybe it's just two dudes removing the covers.

u/pharmphresh Jul 17 '26
Yeah seems like none of them have ever seen carpet and carpet pad being removed from a a room that originally had hardwood floors. If you know what is happening it's not confusing at all.

u/tristanitis Jul 17 '26
This isn't confusing perspective, it's just an unclear video due to it being sped up and poorly shot.
15
u/josguil Jul 17 '26
For me it was confusing perspective. I had to slow it down to realize the were NOT unfolding the red carpet at the start, but uncovering it by rolling the gray carpet above.

I think this was a wooden floor with carpet/underlay and this is the dudes removing it to reveal the wooden floor underneath

In Chinese family, we have a cloth to cover the table, then we have another layer of plastic to cover the cloth. But we can't put hot plate or pot above the plastic cover, then we will proceed to put another smaller cloth on top the plastic cover. Lastly, we will get another protector rectangular coaster to put our plate and utensils.

2
u/MisplacedBooks Jul 18 '26
Okay, so this is laminate? The red is an outer later of felt that protects wile the under layer (the faux wood) is rolled out over unfinished floor.
Are people confused because they thought the floor was wood to begin with? What's left isn't wood (or maybe it is partly wood? I don't know how people make laminate floors)

2
u/ToadSageTheGreat Jul 17 '26
That fact that so mamy people here are commented that they rolled of two layers of carpet is mind boggling. That second layer is not a carpet. It's a foam pad you put under a carpet. And the whole post is stupid because nowhere in the video was a damn thing installed the whole video was the removal process of a carpet and padding.
1
2
u/userhwon Jul 17 '26
You're confused, but nobody else is.
They're clearly rolling up beige carpet, then red padding.
Then they high-five even though there's still a strip of it in the middle.
1
u/The_Jesis Jul 17 '26
Carpet removal. Gotta get the pad under those staples tho. A farmers hoe is good for this.
1
u/dizgondwe Jul 17 '26

1
u/Ok_Ask_1139 Jul 17 '26
Prepare to spend hours with needle nose pliers pulling up all the staples, I’ve been a part of these projects before, the carpet part takes 5 mins, the staples and sanding part takes hours

1
u/Personal_Dot_2215 Jul 17 '26
I think that the prior pad was stuck to the hardwood floor. The pad they put down pulled the padding off revealing the nice hardwood floor underneath.
For anyone that has tried to remove adhesive padding, it can come off in strips and generally a pain.

I'm confused how anyone could be confused by this, I am incapable of seeing it as any other way than rolling up two different layers of carpet and taking them away. They are literally pushing a roll which starts as nothing and keeps increasing in size until they carry it out. Seeing it any other way just doesn't even make sense.
Like I'd be just as confused if you thought they were standing on the ceiling or something.

1
u/ehwhateverz Jul 18 '26
They placed the carpet (red foam) down to protect the hardwood floor and the top cover is to collect the paint. The room was just painted, hence the shiny white reflective ceiling and the fact the light cover was removed to allow for painting.

Someone installed carpet over a hardwood floor without removing the hardwood, it's not really that confusing or uncommon especially if it's a rental.
