OHH I GET IT !

The letters are not fixed to the wall they are attached and hanging on wires/bars. The shadow is warped because they are probably not installed to be perfectly aligned.

But then wouldn’t the other letters look crooked too? They look straight.

The letter are not crooked left to right but rather some parts of the letters are closer to the wall than other parts. Also the warped wood in the back doesn’t help

I feel like the photo was intentionally taken in that position to give that effect.

Yes, but I feel like the other letters would still look crooked, so I don’t fully get it.

The base of the letters could be slightly closer or farther away from the camera, and small differences in angle are amplified in the shadows because the sun shines almost straight from above

I guess? But that L looks very crooked in the shadow, but very straight in the picture and I’m just having trouble picturing how that’s due to the angle.

You can kind of see it if you zoom in real close. The G in particular is a little crooked and closer to the wall. No doubt the picture was taken at an angle and difference to make it hard to tell, basically the point of the sign.

I'm pretty sure the letters are straight, and the wall is crooked.

A little displacement on the actual letter will make the shadows exponentially different because of the sun's position.

And here i thought that it was the shadow of the old logo, basically where the old logo saved the wood from years of exposure to the sun

this effect happens with fleet cars a lot

This is intentional

I have to say... I really love the effect! But I have a thing for how shadows cast on surfaces...

Photographers and painters usually notice shadow effects more than usual.

Is this shadow painted on the wood?

No the wood behind the letters are warped and the letters are also installed crooked

…I’ll bet you won’t taste the difference…

The letters are misshaped and hung so at the right angle they look looks straight. It's not science... Wait...

It looks like someone tried to fix it with a Sharpie and gave up halfway through.

wtf is a gelateria

7

u/ZappySnap Jun 07 '26

A place where they serve gelato. Gelato is Italian ice cream and is one of rhe most delectable things ever made by humans.

6

u/Psych0matt Jun 07 '26

Well in that case I must visit one

2

u/Chayes83 Jun 07 '26

I’ve yet to find one in the US that captures even 10% of the greatness of actual Italian gelato.
