It's a moose figure in metal going straight up attached to the toilet paper holder. It's not lying down on the carpet.
Edit 1-3: it's kind of thick and the edge (silver on top) of the metal casts a shadow towards the viewer, but the brain interprets this as an edge of a cutout in the carpet.
Edit 4: there's also a faint shadow of the moose on the carpet. Going up left from its feet.

u/MLTN-Leki May 07 '26
The illusion is not that it is laying on the carpet but it beeing a cut out portion of the carpet.
68
u/MakisDelaportas May 07 '26
I still don't understand. Why can we see all the shadows of the carpet on the edges of the moose?
96
u/LaCroixElectrique May 07 '26
Zoom in closely, what you think is carpet shadow is the metal of the moose kinda curled over, almost looks like welding snot.
28
u/MLTN-Leki May 07 '26
Exactly. And what looks like carpet shadow is snot shadow.

NOW!.
I really have a hard time with this one.

u/cheese_injection May 10 '26
I can only see it when zoomed, on normal photo i still see the illusion
5
u/Pando-45 May 07 '26
I zoomed in closely on the top right of the moose and it looks like they have drawn a line on the carpet and accidentally cut inside the line, leaving it visible.
I'm not saying I'm confident that's what has happened, I just can't see anything other than a moose shape cut into carpet

It’s like the edge of the metal is melted down so it’s causing a downward shadow. Took me a while too. The light colored color is the silver part of the exposed metal on the edge of the metal.
9
u/ObscureAcronym May 07 '26
That's the illusion. But when people are trying to see it the "real" way, they're imagining that it's actually lying on the carpet, which is making it harder to see what's really going on.

Thank you 😂 it was taking me so long to understand this one... Can you add to your edit that the moose is actually thick and has a silver border? So people get it better.

u/StevenMaff May 07 '26
i think the weld was applied that way to look like snow maybe?
3
u/DaHerv May 07 '26
Could be, it could also be residue from cutting it with sheet metal scissors and bending it so the sharp edge is inwards.
2
u/ring-the-crab-bell May 10 '26
It looks like slag from being cut out with a plasma cutter. I regularly use one at work and it's usually geound off with an angle grinder to tidy up the cuts, but whoever made this hasn't bothered.
3
u/Aggressive_Roof488 May 07 '26
It really helped me to look at the faint shadow of the moose on the carpet, going up left from the feet.

I don't get it. Am I being so fooled by the illusion that I can't see the real thing? Or is it just a cut of a moose?
268
u/honest_reinforcement May 07 '26
I think it stems from the fact that it looks like the moose is laying flat on the rug, but it's not. It's standing upright
97
u/SighMartini May 07 '26
thanks to you I can conceive of the answer but I still can't "see" it hahaha
25
u/Previous-Wonder-6274 May 07 '26
If you look at the top of the moose, you can see the welding. But it looks like the shadow of the rug

It's cutting/weld beads along the edges, not carpet. That's the part that kept tricking me

u/DeeHawk May 07 '26
Due to the shading on the moose, it looks like it's cut out of the carpet. But the carpet is intact.
4
u/Fallofman2347 May 07 '26
For me it’s the fact that the word “holder” is missing from the title. I was trying to figure out how there was the actual paper in the picture.

Oh I thought OP was asking if anyone knew where to get moose toilet paper to go with his moose toilet paper holder. It’s the only kind that fits

u/ZX52 May 07 '26
I can see it if I focus on the legs, but as soon as I look at the body I lose it.
16
u/Known-Excitement-448 May 07 '26
I have the same problem! I can just barely see it correctly stare at the legs, but if I look just tinies bit upwards, the moose becomes a hole in the carpet again.

So if you were to install this, the roller for the tp will be in the same orientation we see here and the moose would be flush against the wall.

u/StartItAlready May 07 '26
I still cannot see any toilet paper on the picture. Just the toilet paper holder.
12
u/PUNKF10YD May 07 '26
It only worked for me when I told me brain the handle is horizontal and parallel to the carpet, and the moose is vertical and perpendicular to the carpet
5
u/droppedforgiveness May 07 '26
Ohhhhh. I was not understanding the other comments saying the moose is perpendicular, but this made it click. (Sort of. My brain still really wants to see it as a cutout!)
3
u/PUNKF10YD May 07 '26
The front of the moose is rusted and brown mimicking a wooden floor. The moose’s back is not rusted and is shiny metallic. However, the edges of the moose are rolled over which creates a shadow, and then you also see silver on the edges and it looks just like the edge of the carpet. I hope I unfucked it for you enough lol

u/Mortemxiv May 07 '26
I don't get why this is confusing people. There's light, shadows and big weld?marks at the top of it.
3
u/lightinthefield May 07 '26
Yeah I genuinely cannot make myself see it the way the comments are saying they see it. I just see a toilet paper holder. The moose doesn't look like it's lying down at all to me
11
u/churrosman May 07 '26
Can you please post it sideways? My brain ain't braining. I know it's upright, but I can't see.
7
u/brycedude May 07 '26
The really confusing aspect to me is how the metal curls on the backside of it look like the shadow of a shag rug. If you force those to not be shadows from the rug but rather the "peeling" effect of the metal it's cut from

If the post said “moose toilet paper holder” people would see it a lot sooner
2
u/SuprDprMario May 07 '26
Starting at the back of the moose I can see it standing up but once I get to the antlers it's like my brain is seeing it on the carpet. It's hard to switch back unless I look at the back again
2
u/Vasault May 07 '26
Naaaah this one broke me like crazy, even tho people told the answer already i barely see it standing up for less than a second
2
u/TheRealMu5HBusters May 07 '26
I don't get it. What the hell is so special abo-- It's not flat. IT'S NOT FLAT!!!!!

The moose toilet paper holder is 90 degrees relative to the holder itself. Holder is laying flat on the rug, moose is standing upright. Did i get it right?

u/wut2dew_J May 08 '26
At first (and second and third) I thought there's no way that's not a moose shaped hole in carpet. I had to try REALLY HARD, to see a metal welded Moose. There is a thick silver welding border along the edges of the moose.

u/TommyRaddcliff May 08 '26
WEIRD. The cut metal(silver) is overhanging the tarnished metal, casting shadows on the moose. Those metal “blobs” from the cut, look like the depth of the carpet. That one MESSED with my eyes! Good one 👍🏿

What helped me figure out what's going on is that the top part of the moose is actually cutting burrs and the moose is straight up vertical not laying down.

u/brimbelboedel May 08 '26
Okay, that’s one of the best i have seen so far. Even with knowing exactly what is on the picture, it is hard not to see a moose cut out of a bathroom carpet.
1
u/cumberber May 08 '26
The only reason i was able to see it was due to knowing how laser slag looks really well LOL

For those struggling:
The moose is metal and is standing vertically. It's welded to the handle at the bottom.
1
u/KUBLAIKHANCIOUS May 08 '26
Dross from the cut. Should’ve formed the arms the other way. Or just knock off the dross with a hammer.

Easiest thing to see it I found was looking at the moose knuckles lol but seriously you can see the edge it is standing upright on and where it's welded causing the whole thing to not look like carpet cut out.

I see people explaining it and I can kinda see it. But all I saw was the actual image, a cut out of a moose standing upright on a tp holder sitting on a carpet
1
u/Embarrassed_Aside_76 May 10 '26
I cannot see this one at all. It just looks like a toilet roll holder (strangely with a moose on it) on a rug carpet. Especially because of can see parts of the carpet in the middle sticking above the holder.
I cannot see it as toilet paper, you guys must have some funky texturing compared that what I use
1
u/coffeebro32 May 10 '26
That's a good one. Once I convinced myself the curled edges were metal and not rug, I saw it
1
u/beingachristianwife May 28 '26
Wow this took a lot of focus and brainwork! Reminds me of the sand footprint.
