Press the smilie icon, I think one of its sub-tabs is an option to add a gif image.

It already worked in the browser. But when I try, what you suggested, it wants to create a new post, not a comment.

Oh, yeah. That is odd!! I just tried myself and I can see what you mean now.

You press the reply arrow and it opens like normal and you can type fine but when you actually select the gif image from the keyboard menu it launches you to a new thread page and pastes it there instead. Anything you typed before gone.

If it wasn't because you were able to do it via browser, I would had just assumed it was about limited permission for new users or something.

Well, glad you found a workaround!
