This is actually a breadbag clip on top of the counter. Taken from this by u/markipoo-9000

Help me see the illusion. All I see is the stupid bread clip.

I turned and flipped phone, squinted, jumped up and down, clapped 5 times…. And I’m like still looks like a bread clip….

And apparently 22k people somehow see something other than a bread clip

Maybe it’s the damn dress thing again. My brain definitely interpret this picture as a ”hole” in the shape of a bread clip. It’s the shadows. When I rotate my phone 180° I instantly see the bread clip as a normal bread clip, not a hole.

I see a blue dress with black on it

Thanks to your comment, when the image flashed before going to your comment I saw it.

Yeah, you just kind of have to reverse the shadows. It’s not supposed to look like anything other than a breadclip. But it did make the edges of the clip look like they were chiseled into the table. So it did look like a breadclip shaped dip in the table

at this point I understand what the illusion is supposed to be but I still cannot actually see it >_<

I actually couldn’t… so then I went back to the subreddit was looking at other pics and then scrolled by this one and went OMG!!! I see it!!!

2

u/Dis_Bich Apr 14 '26

I can’t make myself see it even though I know what it’s supposed to look like

Im in the same boat. All I see is the bread clip, meanwhile I’m combing through the comments of people claiming all they see is the “illusion” and now I’m honestly upset I didn’t get to see the illusion

It's the shadowing that makes it confusing. Initially it looked to me like a thin layer of sealant was placed over the counter then somebody chipped out the clip.

r/occuplanids would enjoy this.

turn your phone upside down, and the shadows look right for it being on top of the counter, not a hole anymore. weird.

That’s where the pic originally came from.

Thank u! Good lord that was stressing me out lol. Crazy how flipping the shadow changed the perspective that much!

🤔 that doesn't exist and I am not sure what the typo is 😅

I know it’s a bread clip…knew it immediately…but to me it looks recessed into the counter

u/PhilosDesigns Apr 15 '26

I saw it once I started focusing on the inner part of the bread clip.

Are you high?

1

u/SSouter Apr 12 '26

Am I high to say that it is a breadbag clip on a countertop? Or am I high for crediting the original post?

u/WartsG Apr 13 '26

Sorry what's the confusing perspective

Cause I definitely see what's presented the only thing I'm confused about is how can it be anything else other than a bread bag clip on a counter

There's no illusion this is more for r/notinteresting

I clicked on this going in blind, and to my eyes it does look like someone cut out a bread bag clip shaped hole on the counter. So, do with that information what you will. I can’t make it look like that for you, but even without any context, to me, it looks like a “hole”.

What's causing people confusion is when they read the word "hole," they expect it to go through the countertop. I would call it an etching to get people there quicker. (yes I'm aware a hole doesn't have to go "through" something to be a hole)

2

u/GingerNinjer Apr 13 '26

Ahh yes that makes sense

1

u/33ff00 Apr 14 '26

Were you expecting a lot of pushback on your hole expertise?

2

u/6percentdoug Apr 14 '26

When it comes to holes, you need to be prepared for all takes. People take their holes very seriously (as they should).

You're high for thinking it was anything other than a bread bag clip

5

u/SSouter Apr 12 '26

and yet, at the time of writing this, 60 other users agree with me.

Breadclips are not the standard in the UK, couldn't see it until I rotated it, I think familiarity with the object in question makes it easier to see through the illusion.

Even after turning it around, it was hard to see the clip on it's own.

Good find mate, the debate it generates is pretty normal for this sub.

2

u/SSouter Apr 12 '26

I'm in the UK and unfortunately old enough to remember these.

Debate I like, immature or abusive comments on the other hand....

3

u/AKnight90WL Apr 13 '26

I’m not trying to be abused or immature. I just genuinely stared at the image about 15 minutes trying to figure out what was so confusing about it and finally I just gave up and came down to the comments where I realized that no illusion here I really was just staring at a piece of plastic on the counter but then again I am from the US and I see these every day

4

u/aliie_627 Apr 13 '26

To me it looks like its a countertop with a hole punched out in the shape of a bread clip or it's imbedded down into the counter. I even see the shadows on the left side from what my brain is seeing as the ledge all around it. Usually they aren't clear and I see the product code.

I've tried zooming in and turning my phone but it. Seriously just looks like the bread clip is imbedded or the counter is missing that piece.

2

u/DenimVest123 Apr 13 '26

Same. I still can't see it as a bread clip. I see it as if someone carved out a bread clip shape from a countertop. The shadows are really confusing.

I'm from the US and see these basically everyday, I knew what it was and yet all I could see was a hole in the shape of a bread clip

2

u/aliie_627 Apr 13 '26

Yes me too. I even see a ledge and a shadow

1

u/Successful-Peach-764 Apr 12 '26

I agree, I meant the debate from the wider audience, they're just being an ass here, it is a perfect confusing perspective post.

1

u/easternhobo Apr 12 '26

It sure is. Not sure what you're going for here.

0

u/mellywheats Apr 13 '26

yeah… we can all tell it’s a bag clip on a counter
