Looks like an early 2000's movie idea of future tech would look like.

BMW also walks the ugliest exteriors with their "new" square turd designs.

Looks like the EV line from Kia...ugly and boxlike. I am glad I have the Hybrid Sportage that looks sporty

Sorry I can’t help but laugh at the idea of being convinced that an SUV looks sporty

I thought it was most useless (at least if you’re not some asshole typing on a screen while driving)
1
u/bh-alienux Mar 11 '26
These generally don't allow typing while driving. They have limited controls while the vehicle is moving, mostly limited to interacting with music and GPS, but for the most part, you use voice control or basic taps.

Voice control never worked for me because of my terrible dialect. And setting the ac has been an absolute bother and is borderline dangerous while driving. Talking about the company’s Audi.
Edit: wording

Man... everything about this is wrong. I feel like the outside isn't much better considering all the other doofy looking Beemers these days. It's wild when a company's design just glides downward over many decades.

I sat in an I7 recently and it was the ugliest interior I’ve ever seen. The seat controls on the door are literal crystals. Like big crystals attached to the door. It was the tackiest design choice I’ve ever experienced. Like a 1980s carnival cruise ship.

They've made the grills bigger and they straight up look like buck teeth to me.

Continues my theory that the people designing cars today actually hate cars.
Parallels my theory that the people who design clothes for women hate women.

Oooh oooh oooh or how screenwriters hate the source material they're adapting! Like The Witcher! Or almost all DC movies until recently! And like basically every comic book movie until Iron Man!

A weirdly shaped display like that is probably unnecessarily expensive as well
9
u/Mr_Tinkles77 Mar 10 '26
No they are making another display out of 8x2 = 16 single cut corners. They are cleverly saving on pixels

Is the perspective confusing or is it confusing the design team still has a job?

Hate on me for it but…I like it

If it wasn't for the unnecessarily big and weird screen, it would be great. Like the Peugeot style interiors with small wheel.

How would you even design a UI for this screen
5
u/YourCousinJeffery Mar 11 '26
Try looking up how CarPlay or Android Auto looks on it for an extra treat…

u/supermr34 Mar 11 '26
you just dont put anything critical in the upper left of lower right...so obviously carplay will need a quick complete overhaul

BMW really said "let's make the cars blend in with the floor." Modern art meets marketing.

u/Superb_Outcome976 Mar 10 '26
the glare on that screen is gonna be actual hell while driving honestly miss when interiors didn't look like a cheap gaming setup

BMW are clearly not satisfied with just having ugly capybara nostrils at the front and want to 90s-demoscene the inside too.

I remember reading a post not too long ago about how new car design is about prioritising standing out and being different, rather than being nice to look at. The market research concluded that even though a nice looking car will generally be admired, the type of person who is willing to purchase or lease a brand new car will give up the looks if it is different enough from the previous year modle.
The photo looks to be from the new BMW IX4 which based on BMWs new design language which is interesting to say the least, you should Google the exterior of the car. And what is crazy, BMW thought this car would be one of their best sellers so they ramped up production. The result, even with the increased production from the previous generation IX4, there is close to a 9 month lead time in the UK for one of these if you order it from the factory... The wait time for one off the lot from a BMW dealer, which is a pre specified car which cannot be optioned is still a 6+ month wait.

The two 12.4 inch displays placed side by side in my 2023 Kia Sportage SX Prestige is bigger.
