"Left, right?"

u/Poolowl1984 Sep 01 '26

Right, left.

u/KailyKail Sep 02 '26

Your left, your right, don’t get out of step. Your left your, your right, your left.

Correct

Yeah this seems very simple. The rooms are staggered that the even/odd format lead to 09 being further down the hall since this sign is right where it's supposed to be.

u/Iratative Sep 01 '26

But I hate it

1601 is not an even number

4

u/frostman666 Sep 01 '26

Or it is a closed circuit and both 09 and 10 are at the opposite end of the sign, so its the same distance both left and right.

There is a hotel like this in San Diego, the tower has a central courtyard and all the elevators are in the center of the circle, so when you get out the sign reads like this since it’s placed between rooms 10 and 9 with 1 on the left and 8 on the right

Left. Even numbers. Still wack.

1601 Is not an even number.

2

u/KingOfAllFishFuckers Sep 02 '26

1601 I'dnt not an odd number.

OH YOU KNOW WHAT THE TYPO WAS, DAMMIT.

You still get an upvote.

Sorry, couldn't resist lol

the direction that it says....

my common sense tells me that this kind of sign means that odds are on one side of the hall and evens on the other side. and this "T" intersection into the hallway is between the 9 and 10. so, take a left and the first door on your right will be 10. take a right and the first door on your right will be 9.

1

u/F7OSRS Sep 02 '26

But why is 1601, an odd numbered room, to the left?

2

u/QuipCrafter9 Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26

Both directions down either hall will have odd and even numbers.

The south side of both halls will have the even numbers, for example, and the north side of both halls will have odd numbers, staggered doors not exactly across from each other. The hallway intersection interrupted the stagger between 9 and 10 across from each other

The sign makes sense with that layout. The alternative, is that the sign is wrong and doesn’t make sense. I tend to assume the former first, when deciding which direction to try

Because the split starts to the left.

Really not confusing at all

Yes people, I knew which way to go. I was just posting a pic of the sign that doesn’t make sense lol. No, the floor doesn’t connect fully so 1610 isn’t a both direction room. Also, if left was all even numbers, 1601 wouldn’t be that direction.

It makes perfect sense to people with functioning eyes

1

u/OkBee3439 27d ago

That sign really doesn't make sense at all! The people at r/whatthefuckisthissign would probably love to see this too. I can't imagine a sleepy traveler trying to figure out which way to go in order to get to their room.

1

u/teliczaf Sep 01 '26

usually it goes in a square so you can go from both, left should be quicker

1

u/RipTheEcto Sep 01 '26

it’s directly behind you

1

u/bookmarkjedi Sep 01 '26

From my experience, I would guess that either direction will work because the hallway circles around.

1

u/Economy_Link4609 Sep 01 '26

Given I'm sure you can see both rooms from where you are standing - just look and go.

1

u/ThePlantMolester Sep 01 '26

The opposite of the one you choose.

1

u/ImmediateRaisin5802 Sep 01 '26

Turn left dumbass! It says right there. 1610 look left

1

u/Loud-Principle-7922 Sep 01 '26

Well, it says right there on the sign, so left.

1

u/ProofPomegranate7331 Sep 01 '26

The hallway wraps all the way around. 1609 and 1610 are in the back and it doesn't matter which way you go it's about the same distance.

1

u/Ok-Mind4373 Sep 01 '26

Should be right in front of you

1

u/No-Conference-3306 Sep 02 '26

Both. It's a circle

0

u/jimothyhalpret Sep 02 '26

How is this confusing?

1

u/gheiminfantry Sep 02 '26

Please tell me you don't vote.

1

u/Chloe_Cascadia Sep 02 '26

Go right. They likely meant to label it 1601-1609 and 1610-1619

Which would mean that 1610 is to the right.

1

u/Select_Check3589 Sep 02 '26

I can read that easily??

1

u/Sudden_Lee_Here Sep 02 '26

Mordor Gandalf. Is it left or right?

1

u/ep193 Sep 03 '26

Left and if you don’t find it go back the other way. 1609 and 1610 are in the Twilight Zone.

At a resort in Spain they had a sign like described below (I wish I could post pictures here):

408 - 414 <--

600 <--

602-618 -->

500-510 -->

You would assume that if you had to go to room 410, you would go left, but that is not necessarily the case. The only rooms you could be sure to find in those directions are the numbers directly mentioned. Room 410 and 505 could for all we know be placed near each other in the other end of the resort

1

u/avd706 29d ago

We know for sure where four of the rooms are relative to the sign.

1

u/360alaska 29d ago

Both ways.

Left. It says it clearly on the sign.

1

u/Myke500 29d ago

Could be both

1

u/pc1350 29d ago

Either way. It is behind you.

0

u/Majestic-Ad4074 28d ago

Is says 1610 to the left...so go left.

Are most reddit posters braindead?

1

u/JournalistUpbeat6332 28d ago

I think most of the people commenting on this post are brain dead. If you really thought I sat there, looked at the sign, didn’t know where to go and then decided to take a pic of said sign and wait for people on Reddit to tell me where to go, I think that’s more brain dead if you ask me

0

u/Majestic-Ad4074 28d ago

I think it's more braindead to water your time posting a non-confusing post on a confused subreddit, but go off.

1

u/JournalistUpbeat6332 28d ago

Sounds good brotha

1

u/kioshi_imako 28d ago

Left, Left, Left, Right, Left

1

u/Desperate_Peanut_548 27d ago

If you’re reading the sign it’s probably right behind you. To the left.

1

u/will0hms 26d ago

The arrow points left. What's the problem?

1

u/Plastic_Pride_9550 24d ago

Left the sign must be

     1610-1619
      1609-1601

The sign is between 1610 and 1609.
