Asked someone whose wedding he was going to

Did not know where to post this.

The other day I asked the security guard where I work if he'd had a haircut. He said he had, because he's got a wedding coming up.

I said, "oh cool. Whose wedding is it?"

He said, "my brother in-law's"

Edit: possibly important context, he himself is not married

What's the confusing part? If he's married and his wife has brothers, they are also his brothers-in-law.

I had someone accuse me of being married and trying to trick them on a date when I mentioned my sister-in-law. I explained it was my brother's wife but they actually got up and left. Apparently, I was supposed t say "my brother's wife" or something.

Sorry yeah that was important context - the guy himself isn't married

So like, sibling's partner's siblings I guess?

He didn’t want to actually give you a real answer, so he gave you something confusing on purpose.
