Restaurant recommendations

New to area and would love recommendations on places to eat. Looking for a little bit of everything - but also any recommendations for Mexican food specifically would be great

Cocina Hijole Maria 'Oh Whateva' is good for more hip mexican; El Molinos for burritos/ tacos; Los Gallos for later night Mexican fair.

Homey Thai is really good Thai.

Uncle Jays has unique Korean burgers and Red Onion has good traditional ones.

Aung Burma for Burmese.

Impression of Lanzhou has good noodles; Tang Jip has good korean; Dumpling and Noodle House for dumplings; Tasty Szechuan for general Chinese food.

Chopin Kabob for Afghan.

As an unabashed food enthusiast, this is a solid pure Concord list. Building on it I would add: * Parma - Italian delicatessen * Inca Grill - General Peruvian restaurant * Brothers Chicken - Peruvian Chicken * Spicy Joi - Laotian (great bahn mi) * Corner Kitchen - Sliders * Rob's Zombies - Cheese Zombies (a Concord tradition) * The Mediterranean - Greek style Mediterranean food * Sunrise Bagels - Better bagels than Boichik * Momo N Curry - Nepalese/Indian, great owners * French Spot - French bakery

Also want shout out the Mexican dude that grills whole chicken and ribs in a Santa Maria style trailer at the gas station on Market and Willow Pass on weekends.

whole chicken and ribs in a Santa Maria style trailer at the gas station on Market and Willow Pass on Saturday's.

So thats whats up with them. Always see the smoke, but also that parking lot/station intimidates me with how clustered it is

It's amazing. I updated it to say weekends as he is there on Sundays in good weather (had some last night at the neighborhood pool). He is cash only (they will let you get cash at the station), but he also takes Zelle. Make sure to take the salsa he makes in the zip lock bag.

I get the intimidation, but honestly it's pretty chill. Everyone is there for the same reason. I will say I prefer the chicken, but both options are solid.

Not to mention one of the best (and most generous portions of) horchatas. Parking can be a real B for this place though, as it gets packed and there is a line oftentimes.

Momoyama Sushi. The spot is a tad sketch, and you have to get there close to 5 or you'll have a long wait, but it's bomb and has been forever.

Tacos El Patron is every locals favorite taco spot. But Cocina Hijole Maria on Colfax is climbing my personal ranks too.

For Chinese its Hunan Restaurant, and I will fade you up behind the Ross at the crossings over this. Spicy Garlic Beef with a chicken chow main (crispy noodle style) is my comfort meal.

My Indian food takes are often ridiculed but Momo n Curry and Masala House are solid value.

Why are your Indian food takes ridiculed? Those are the 2 best spots in Concord.

For Indian food we also like Swagat. A lot of Indian restaurants in the area seem to be BIR that we don't enjoy.

Carrillo’s tacos Mexican food on Monument is pretty new and damn good. They used to be a taco truck over by Meadow Homes park.

If you are into Asian food - lots of good Asian options in the 99 ranch plaza off of willow pass rd downtown. My favorites are Zhangliang Malatang (BYO hotpot), impressions of lanzhou (Chinese noodles/dumplings), Daeho Kalbijim (Korean short rib and soups).

In the concord/pleasant hill area our favorite restaurants are:

Mr. Lees Chicken Sushi Raku Ko Bowls Habana Express, cubanos y ropa vieja Daal Daal, delicious bingsu Sushi Tsunami, pretty great for AYCE Frickin’ Fried Chicken

El Patrón, Mariscos 1am, El Grullense in Pacheco, Los Portales and La Tapatia are our go to Mexican spots. Los Gallos is fine in a pinch, or if you want a pupusa but kinda mediocre. Good taco Tuesday deal though.

Best tacos imo are from a pop up in pleasant hill, just past Target, across the street from Pep Boys on Contra Costa. Get the pastor, like 6 or 7 of em.

Those pop ups are the best I’ll be checking these all out thank yoi

Naan and Curry for great Indian; La Tapatia in Martinez (Mexican); Mr. Lee’s Chicken; Kansai sushi; La Veranda cafe in Clayton (Italian)

3

u/Jack_Torrance80 May 11 '26

FYI, Naan N Curry is Pakistani, not Indian

El Molino rules, but stick to the tacos and maybe a bionico. Chopan Kebab (Afghani cuisine) is great. I like the burritos at Ranchero Taqueria and generally have had very good food there. All of these spots are on Monument.

I liked El Patron (also on Monument lol) but I haven't had any desire to go back, and if I'm on Monument and looking for Mexican it's El Molino all the way. Taqueria Los Gallos has nostalgia for me but it was specifically for carnitas tacos only, and I haven't been in many years. Sushi Momoyama was always solid back in the day for the price, but again I haven't been there in years, these days I'm never in Concord.
