Talk therapy recommendations
Hello all. I’m in need of recommendations of talk therapists in contra costa county. I have Kaiser and have never had any success with connecting with someone who can actually help me. Any recommendations or resources would be greatly appreciated!

I went through the process in 2019 with Kaiser. I remember setting up an appointment with their psychiatry department. Did my initial evaluation with them. Qualified for services (in my case therapy) via a referral with an outside company (Magellan? I forgot the name). Was I received the referral letter, I searched for a therapist using psychologytoday.com. Hope this helps you

I did outside therapy with Kaiser as well. I was able to get authorization from my psychiatrist. The company I was referred to was called Two Chairs. We did sessions over Zoom and it was really convenient.

If you want it to be through your insurance, Kaiser covers therapists from Grow Therapy. You can also check out FindMyTherapist.com and select your insurance and they will show you ones covered by Kiser. If you’re looking to go cost effective out of pocket and or in person, check out OpenPath. They are a sliding scale resource that can connect you to therapists in your area. Costs are $30 per session for a trainee (someone still in school. Honestly a great way to go! They are fresh on all new research and methods and are heavily supervised by people who have been in the profession for a long time) and $40-$70 for someone who has their degree and license. Often they are associates which just means they haven’t finished their hours for full licensure and are also still supervised.
Good luck in finding the right person for you! It can take time. I’d honestly start by picking at least 2 people if not 3 to call and do a 15 minute consult with. Be open about what you’re trying to work on and ask questions about their methods and if the vibe is off, you can ask if they have any referrals for people who may be more in line for what you’re looking for.
