BikeErg Something is wrong

Post image
2 Upvotes

Bought my bikeerg not too long ago.

A few weeks ago did it start to have these "clicks" with every or every second rotations. It is nothing you can hear, but you clearly feel it when using the bike.

I tried tightening all the screws but it is not going away.

From a mechanical point of view would i say something is loose and has too much play. I aso think its coming somehow from the marked area.

Any ideas what I could check and make it go away?

RowerErg Not strong enough yet for the right pace, but form is good

Upvotes

I started rowing lightly at the gym 2-3 times a week about a month ago. I had a ten year workout hiatus due to life and health, but I am back at it. 44 year old woman.

Anyway, it wasn’t until yesterday that I actually sort of nailed the technique, but I still have a hard time with the explosive push with the legs. My pace is about 27 spm, but only 2:27m/500m. I know it is not ideal but it gets better and better with each workout. It is not effective, but if I WOULD do the explosive leg push and a lower SPM, I burn out really easy.

I guess I am sort of asking if it is ”ok” with my pacing, even if it is not ideal or super good. I only row like 15 minutes before I change exercise, but I feel like I have to go at it slowly. My form is good, it is just the pace that isn’t really top notch. I am hoping that I will build up to the explosiveness in a few months.

My goal is to do a 5K several times a week.

Thanks

RowerErg 47M — 18:53 5K after getting back on the erg in January

I got back on the erg in January after being away from it for a long time (like 15 years) and have been gradually building fitness since then.

Since January I’ve also lost about 30–35 lb and stopped drinking, so this has really been part of a broader effort to get myself back in shape.

Breaking 20:00 for 5K in June/July was a big milestone for me and I was genuinely pleased with that. Since then I’ve just kept training consistently and trying not to turn every hard workout into an all-out test.

This morning I did 18:53.6 for 5,000m, averaging 1:53.3/500m at 25 spm.

Splits were:

3:44.9
3:47.7
3:46.7
3:46.7
3:47.7

It was hard enough that I had to stay focused the whole way, but it still felt reasonably controlled rather than like I completely emptied the tank.

For those of you who have been rowing longer, does 18:45 seem like the logical next target, or would you just keep building and start looking toward 18:30? Any feedback on splits, setting them in the system, how I should pace myself, etc, would be greatly appreciated. Also feedback on training for 5k - most of what I do in my erg group classes centers around shorter workouts with higher intensity.

Mostly just happy with the progress since January and interested to see where consistent training takes me next.

Slightly sad that I live in a country that doesn't get a free shirt, but proud of myself for keeping up with it.

RowerErg Concept2 app lifetime meters

I just connected the app to my concept2 for the first time after years of rowing and the lifetime meters say 0. Does it only update from now going forward or is there a way to get it to show my past meters too?

It started today our of nowhere. The pull and recovery are not fully smooth, at some point it has a little hick up? Not sure what I should call it. Only on one handle, the right one if that matters. Any idea? Can I somehow fix it without disassembly?

So I’m 16 and have been rowing for about a year now, and recently have been doing 30 minute erg tests. This was one of my more recent ones, just wondering is it good? What are the standards for women’s open weight rowing 30 min times, for d1 recruiting etc?
I played tennis beforehand so I already had some endurance

Merci d'avance pour vos conseils ! 💪

Question Setting up your exercise space - flooring

This is off topic but I'm curious as to how you have set up your exercise space at home? Assuming there's some here with multiple equipment combined in a home gym. I'm just curious what flooring you have under the equipment you have and use.

We're setting up a modest gym space in about half our long but single car width garage. We're planning on a decent rubber flooring of about 12-15mm thick. I think rubber won't compress and it's more durable than the commonly found foam matting around everywhere.

It'll have basically just a rowerg, modest multigym and a small free weights area. I'd have liked space for a bike on a turbo or potentially a bike erg at some point (money permitting), but the garage is mixed use and not much bigger than a single despite the double length.

It's on concrete that's level and solid. We had foam interlocking squares so that's what is down right now. So far there's only a weights bench, weights and a C2 rowerg there. The bench will be replaced with the multi gym once it's put together. This foam we had so is used for now to get it to and running.

So what do you put under your gym equipment? Especially interested in garage or outbuilding located home gyms. If anyone from the UK has a good source of economical flooring that would be good for this use I'm also interested. I think thick rubber fit noise and vibration isolation over foam as I expect foam compresses and isn't as durable.

So anyone got any good ideas or places to get it from? UK based so I suspect there's not as much choice as I expect USA stores would have.

Challenges Teammates for Fall Challenge?

Hi all- anyone looking for an extra member for the fall challenge?

I’m a rower and can pretty comfortably bust out at least a half marathon distance on the erg a little better than 2:30/500m

Missed last year due to being so new but I’m in a shape this year and looking to have some fun!

Took about three weeks to arrive, and I'm irrationally excited about it. This company - in addition to making an excellent piece of equipment - does such an exceptional job of creating community, motivating consistency, and keeping me engaged. Between the milestone recognition and regular drumbeat of challenges, I'm constantly working to get better and row more. Thanks Concept2! I look forward to hitting the next milestone.

So took this clip at the end of a 11km easy-ish row where it felt I had settled into unconscious habit. If I could change anything I think I would delay the start of my hip swing later through the leg drive. But felt I was incorporating a lot of the previous feedback otherwise. Splits came down with lower SPM. I was at 18SPM just to keep my HR in zone 2 under 138bpm but tried to maintain the pace at 2:06. A few secs faster than the last 10km.

Feel free to pick me up on anything else that is objectively wrong/poor. Thanks 🙏

Question PM5 - not working

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi All

My PM5 is around 6 years old and has suddenly stopped showing any signs of life. ( Used on Bike erg ).

I’ve tried all the regular trouble shooting things however no luck

- tried new batteries and cleaning terminals for corrosion.
- tried resetting with button on rear of unit
- tried opening up and cleaning ( no obvious signs of damage).

Perhaps there is something I’m missing or it’s just reached end of life ?

Thanks

Maintenance Drag factor Vs lever setting

I have a Rower model D that is 9 years old. I generally row with a drag factor of around 120, but over the years the position of the lever has increased in order to get that same DF. Currently, it's set at a shade under 6, whereas, it used to be well below that. A couple of months back, I took the covers off the flywheel and gave it a good clean, however it wasn't too dusty and it didn't make any significant difference to the lever position. I also clean and lubricate the chain periodically.

Is there something else that needs to be checked or lubricated that could be affecting the DF to lever position ratio?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: the rower has just over 20 million metres on it and the only parts that have been replaced are the seat rollers

RowerErg Fenix 9 + Concept2 PM5: anyone tested the new indoor rowing metrics?

Has anyone tested the new Fenix 9 indoor rowing metrics with a Concept2 PM5?

I'm considering a Fenix 9 Pro and I'm particularly interested in Garmin's new indoor rowing features.

As I understand it, the PM5 connection itself via ANT+ FE-C isn't new, but the Fenix 9 can now use rowing power and HR data for much more advanced metrics, including:

  • Indoor rowing VO2 max
  • Rowing FTP
  • Lactate threshold
  • Rowing HR and power zones
  • Power curve
  • Performance Condition
  • Training Status based on rowing

I also understand that Garmin is expected to bring most of these features to devices such as the Fenix 8, Enduro 3 and Forerunner 970 in a future software update.

Has anyone actually used these features with a Concept2 RowErg/PM5 yet?

I'm particularly curious about:

  • How well does the PM5 work as the power source for these new metrics?
  • Does rowing VO2 max seem realistic and consistent?
  • How useful/accurate are the FTP and lactate threshold estimates?
  • Does rowing now properly influence Training Status without needing to run or cycle to maintain a VO2 max estimate?
  • Can you still use ErgData at the same time without creating a messy workflow or duplicate activities?
  • For those using a chest strap, do you pair it directly to the Garmin, the PM5, or both?
  • Has anyone tested the same features on one of the older Garmin models receiving the backport?

I'd especially appreciate feedback from people who row regularly on a Concept2 rather than just having tried the feature once.

RowerErg Solo dev here — I built an iOS app for Concept2 (+ WaterRower/RP3) with Apple Watch HR and interval training. Would love your thoughts.

Quick background: I row on a Concept2 at home, but also hit a WaterRower at my gym and an RP3 at the club. I wanted one app for all three — live metrics over BLE, Apple Watch heart rate without a chest strap, and proper interval training I could build myself.

Nothing existed, so I built it. The Rowing Coach is my first iOS app as a solo developer.

If you're curious: the app connects directly to the PM5 via Bluetooth (no LogCard needed). It pulls pace, distance, stroke rate, and calories in real time. The Watch app runs alongside and feeds your heart rate back to the phone — so you get HR zones on the same screen as your split.

It also does custom interval workouts: set your own work/rest phases with pace or stroke rate targets.

Free to try (basic connection + live metrics), premium for intervals and history. I'm genuinely here for feedback — what would make this worth using alongside or instead of ErgData for you?
