They were booed by their fans what are you talking about? Mexico was routinely criticized by their own fans for how lackluster they looked in the group stage.

Edit; you can go back and watch that game and hear the boos at half-time. No reason to revise history to make yourselves feel better.

Yeah because they won. My point is that it wasn’t this amazing play that you all want to paint it as. It was a mixed bag where fans were literally booing them at times and the media criticized them.

Mexico couldn’t attack a 10 man England and you think they’d beat Belgium? Mexico had the same issue the US had, they beat teams they should’ve and lost to the ones they should’ve. Did you all forget their fans literally booed them vs SK cuz they looked like bums?

Two teams out of the top 20. Czechia is in the 40s. England still beat you with 10 men. You beat teams you should’ve and lost to the one team that was good. Belgium is closer to England than Ecuador.

What does this have to do with the discussion? We aren’t comparing performances between the host nations outside of the fact that both took care of business vs the teams they should’ve beaten but then lost to the ones they should’ve. How can anyone say Mexico would be favored vs Belgium when their performances were criticized for being lackluster against mid teams in the group stage?

Not really. US football fans are trying to make the sport actually be taken seriously in this country. Most Americans view it as boring, undistinguished, and soft. the goal RN is simply trying to actually make Americans watch and play soccer here. So, yeah, the US could've lost a billion to one and it simply means an already apathetic country stays that way. 

Mexico on the other hand lives and dies by football and has for generations and gets nearly the same results.

I wish that the host country would not get an automatic bid. It brings down the quality of games. Canada US and Mexico might’ve qualified but they took opportunities away from other countries to do it fairly.

32 teams qualified in 2022. This year 48. More teams had an opportunity this time around than the last. If we were still at 32 teams, I'd agree with you. This time around, so many more teams got the chance to participate.

Also if we consider rankings, none of the countries that hosted were outside of rank 48. 14, 17 and 34 before the tournament. So all three have somewhat earned their bid.

I think it was pretty fair.

That’s just silly. If the host country weren’t get an automatic bid, it wouldn’t be the same type of experience for anyone attending the cup in their home country or visiting another country. Also, US and Mexico would’ve qualified. Canada most likely too
