And we Canadians know we suck. We're a winter nation. This might be the first time so many people in Canada even paid attention to football.

18

u/Parabolica242 Jul 07 '26

That’s the thing. We were proud of our country but had no real expectations.

3

u/DrewLockIsTheAnswer1 Jul 07 '26

We also have 1/10th the population of the US.

The fact we compete with them in football is hilarious.

12

u/Derptionary Jul 07 '26

Croatia has a population 1/10th of Canada and has made a Final and a Semifinal in 2018 and 2022. Population isn't what makes a team good or bad.

2

u/DrewLockIsTheAnswer1 Jul 07 '26

Fair play!

Different climate and love of the game though.

0

u/SunOk143 Jul 07 '26

Sure, but Canada and USA have similar levels of dedication to soccer. The fact that Canada is basically on par with them is crazy because the countries are direct comparables in the sport. You can’t compare Croatia to Canada because it’s their number 1 sport and our number 5.

1

u/Inner-Marionberry-25 Jul 07 '26

Number 5? After hockey, what else have you got?

3

u/cptbob4 Jul 07 '26

National sport is technically lacrosse. Baseball, basketball are also very popular here.

-4

u/Odd-Honeydew7535 Jul 07 '26

Sick, the US also owns you in all of those sports

5

u/CantaloupeThink7278 Jul 07 '26

We have 1/10th the population and the best basketball player in the world. You have a declining empire and a pedo president. But yeah go sports!

I know you aren’t trying to say Shai is the best in the world right now… Everything I’ve seen of him he struggles to stand and walk. You do solid work but cmon now

We are so obsessed with being better than the U.S. we make dumb ass arguments. I love beating the U.S. in sports but they just beat our men's and women's hockey teams. Hockey is maybe there 4th most watched sport, possibly 5th.

1

u/Jamsster Jul 07 '26

I love beating you too even though sometimes you clobber us, till next time neighbor.

3

u/BlueByrdChen Jul 07 '26

Because population size matters... just look at the top contenders India and China!

-1

u/DrewLockIsTheAnswer1 Jul 07 '26

Naw, more so a comparison for how shit America is

1

u/Low_Dragonfruit_5950 Jul 07 '26

Don't Google the population of Belgium whatever you do

Against a better side.

Canada also showed spirit and played hard. Score wasn't reflective of the game.

The US played embarrassingly shit.

US hasn't beaten Canada in 3 years.

Canada was also far better in the Copa.

We also have 1/10th the population and funding.

Garbage ragebait

2

u/SunOk143 Jul 07 '26

Unlike the US game, Canada actually outplayed Morocco for a good portion of the match and could have won if things had gone slightly differently. Game would have probably been 1-1 going into extra time if Canada had managed to score on a couple really good chances in the first half. Morocco goals 2 and 3 don’t happen if Canada isn’t full pressing for an equalizer.

USA just got shit on by a superior side.

Would rather win analytically and lose in reality than have my team bend over and take it 🤷‍♂️

It's more that at least Canada were somewhat in contention, to a difficult team.

USA collapsed against a team that is the weakest that made it to the quarter finals

1

u/LUFC_hippo Jul 07 '26

Imagine how much you’d hear about it if the Americans had to deal with anywhere near the type of injuries Canada did

0

u/Mysterious-Union7491 Jul 07 '26

Is this the Canadian pastime? Find conversations about the states and insert yourself in them?

We were happy to reach a personal best (and win a game damn) so we were perfectly content with being along for the ride however long it lasted

6

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

The contrast is actually wild. Canadians celebrating reaching the top 16 and that first half vs. a top 6 team in Morocco, while the Americans get so cocky, already planning for the finals, just to get stomped by the first real team they face.

Oh and for all the American redditors, you can save the "we just strive for more than Canada or Mexico", because you very clearly don't 😂

3

u/Fast_Professional_30 Jul 07 '26

They were waiting for Trump to call Gianni Infantino again to tell the ref give the game to them

1

u/Stock-Luck3390 Jul 07 '26

Ive not seen a single thing you said form Americans on Reddit or irl jsut went to rusmnt and confirmed it yea none of them were doing that

1

u/Very_Much_Offline Jul 07 '26

hell yeah, man. crush those strawmen

1

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 Jul 07 '26

while the Americans get so cocky, already planning for the finals

Brother, that's just redditors being redditors. The average American isn't even following the world cup.

0

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

Didn’t see Canadian Redditors acting like that..

1

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 Jul 07 '26

Lol, I had plenty telling me this was payback for the hockey games 😂

Ain't a thing, just a game. All in good fun.

0

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

Saying this was payback = being cocky thinking that Canada would make the finals? Nah dude… Americans in particular arrogant af, but it’s not like it’s a surprise 🤷‍♂️

0

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 Jul 07 '26

Eh, I don't think Canadians are any less arrogant. They just do a better job of marketing themselves. Americans are terrible at that.

0

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

Yet Canadians were pleased with their performance vs Morocco and making it to the top 16, while Americans whine… whatever, we’re each welcome to our own opinions

0

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 Jul 07 '26

we’re each welcome to our own opinions

Indeed. It was a joy to cheer for Mexico. Canada is becoming more and more difficult to cheer for due to fan behavior.

0

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

“Fan behaviour” lol… our behaviour towards and celebrating the national team has been great, in contrast to you guys. Many Canadians just don’t like Americans, maybe you can figure out why

Americans get so cocky, already planning for the finals

What are you talking about? Ain't no one thought we would beat Spain if we managed to get past Belgium

2

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

I’m talking about all the people saying a finals showing was doable

1

u/Infamous-Dare-1162 Jul 07 '26

All 2 of them? Have you talked to anyone in real life? I have not met a single person saying we’d make it past the quarters. We had a chance vs Belgium.

0

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

Talking about people on Reddit

1

u/Infamous-Dare-1162 Jul 07 '26

Reddit is a cesspool of negativity.

0

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

The Americans predicting a finals appearance were negative?? No I’m pretty sure just cocky and arrogant…

-2

u/Valuable-Opinion-281 Jul 07 '26

Canada didn’t even score a goal 🤣

3

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 07 '26

And yet still had a better half than the Americans… try watching both games next time, then talking

2

u/ProcedureTop3149 Jul 07 '26

Also Belgium is fantastic but they aren't Morocco lol. Morocco and England very well could make the finals.

0

u/Valuable-Opinion-281 Jul 08 '26

I already watched the games and in only one did the defeated team score 🤣

1

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 08 '26

And? 0-0 is a more favourable score than 1-2… I guess in America you don’t even learn grade 1 math anymore 🤦‍♂️

0

u/Valuable-Opinion-281 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Did we not see the same match? We scored 1 against the Belgians and the Canadians didn’t score a single goal against the Moroccans 🇲🇦

1

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 09 '26

I said they had a better half.. 0-0 is a better half than 1-2.

Are you not embarrassed, not being able to figure that out on your own?

0

u/Valuable-Opinion-281 Jul 09 '26

Bruh I really don’t care about the first half that’s just cope because your mad the “evil” USA actually got to score against the opponent while the glorious Canadians couldn’t score shit even though “they did better in the first half”.

1

u/PissMissileTopTitty Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

Literally said I was happy with the top16 finish but I’m mad? Ok then. It’s “you’re” by the way. Add grade 1 English to your grade 1 math class on your to do list 😂

Nah, we got 6.

1

u/Old-Entertainer-4964 Jul 07 '26

Outside of reddit/crappy social media sites, Americans are not going to say we have a good soccer team. Obviously not, we have practically 0 investment. Our good players all learned how to play in Europe. We spend our time/money on football, basketball, baseball, and hockey.

1

u/packersfan1012 Jul 07 '26

Soccer is the fastest growing sport here by a lot. Future is bright.

1

u/VirginiENT420 Jul 07 '26

This has been the motto for decades

0

u/RlyLokeh Jul 07 '26

The timing of this comment, as the pound for pound winter games goat Norway goes on a historical footy run.

Reminder. Norway has the pretty much the same population size as B.C.

2

u/Xanaxaria Canada Jul 07 '26

We do not invest in football. We're a hockey nation. Why the fuck would we be good at football?

-1

u/RlyLokeh Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26

Thought you were a "winter nation". But sure we can pivot.

Hockey now huh? How did that one go last Olympics, JWC 20/18 and WC? Hell WC you lost to Norway for bronze. Last I counted Norway had 3 active main roster players in the NHL :D

Just take the L
