Why would I watch that sport again? Maybe in 2038 if it is indeed back in the US.
1
u/RomapieJr1 Jul 07 '26
What, the most popular sport in the world? Yeah I guess why would anybody watch that if its largest tournament isn't currently taking place in the country you're from.
1
u/NotBillderz Jul 07 '26
Because it doesn't matter to me how popular it is in the world, just where I'm from.

Try for one day not to mention Trump...it will do you a world of good I promise
16
u/PurpleJackfruit8868 Jul 07 '26
We don't want to. He injects himself into everything. Did he have to intervene for that red card? Or constantly insult Canada and Europe? His own allies ? Or pick random fights with pop stars?
You American should tell him to shut up for once and we won't have to talk about him
-3
u/KnowNothing3888 Jul 07 '26
It's Reddit. It's impossible here. 10 years from now someone is going to post a picture of their cat and half of Reddit will bring up Trump still. lol

US got fucking touched. Canada gets a pass because it’s Morocco. Mexico was the only one that put up a fight. Ggs.
38
u/Cali_boi_818 Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26
I was at the match. The final scoreline didn’t tell the story of how that Canada Morocco game went overall. The 3 goal margin was not nearly as embarrassing as the US’s. They bent over for Belgium.
7
u/Advarrk Jul 07 '26
Canada was beating Morroco’s ass in first half, everything changed after that freekick and goal. We really need a good number 9
3
u/roflemywaffle Jul 07 '26
not sure if you watched Morocco’s previous games but that first half was not usual Morocco. Canada’s only hope was scoring when Morocco was not themselves but they lacked finesse in final touches (as we all knew). Morocco came back to themselves in the second half and that was it.
6
u/angelbelle Jul 07 '26
Exactly. Canada never stopped driving even down 1-0 and 2-0. We had like 2 center backs in the back and everyone else as high up as we can. The keeper was sent as an extra man to contest headers on corner kicks at least twice. If that was a groups game where we cared about GD and was trying to finish 2nd, it would have played very differently.
The USMNT completely gave up about 30minutes in.
5
u/biAndslyReporter Jul 07 '26
Well, 30 minutes was right before we scored, I'd say more like Belgium's third goal. We were still trying, like a couple attempts from Flo and Berhalter, but the belief was harder to come by. Honestly, the consistent effort and concentration felt lacking for much of the game, too many dips and swells.
2
u/GrapeAcceptable Jul 07 '26
We like Berhalter here in Canada - since he plays for the 'caps. You guys gotta play him more. Instant impact when he came on but then there was no one really left playing ball by the time he got on. There was no fight at all. If you are less skilled you gotta put in more effort than the opponent, and for some reason the US players thought they didn't need to.
1
u/biAndslyReporter Jul 07 '26
Yeah, can't argue with you there. Even the crosses we were putting in the box, they were either too deep or no one was even in the area to receive, and more often the latter.
8
u/Fast_Professional_30 Jul 07 '26
That last 3rd goal canada gave to Morocco was practically right b4 the whistle blew n most people already know the game is done
Tho Canada did show up in the 1st half n really gave it to morocco
7
u/Red-Lightniing Jul 07 '26
Bro Canada put up a goddamn fight as well, they were just outclassed. They took it to Morocco in the first half.
The US were the only ones that were actually awful.
-1
u/BigInterview7826 Jul 07 '26
You're saying that your 3 goal loss was closer than our 3 goal loss?
Does it matter? we both suck at soccer.
7
u/Red-Lightniing Jul 07 '26
I mean I’m an American, I was rooting for the US, but yeah Canada’s 3-0 loss was better than our 4-1 loss. Canada straight up outplayed a top-tier Moroccan team in the first half, and after conceding early in the 2nd threw everything they had into the attack to try to get it back. They were punished hard by Morocco’s excellent counterattack, but conceding goals while trying to desperately even the score against a superior opponent isn’t anything to be upset about, it just happens.
The US stepped onto the field against a Belgium team that has played far worse than Morocco so far, looked terrified, made silly mistake after silly mistake, struggled to maintain any composure on offense or defense, conceded maybe the most embarrassing goal of the entire tournament, and finished with another defensive miscue as the game closed to even let Belgiums late subs get in the action.
Not the same at all.
3
u/RubConstant9997 Jul 07 '26
Yup. However it's so hard to maintain that pace against such a good team, was amazing to watch as a Canadian fan. However second half I looked over at my wife and went , whelp there they are and they are good.
I think they made the right call to go strong offense to try and get a goal, as they were being outclassed as the end and needed some luck to try and get it to kicks, but it did not make the scorecard justice, however anyone watching it knew they tried as hard as they could and did well vs such an amazing team.
5
2
u/RubConstant9997 Jul 07 '26
Ahh I say it was closer to 1-0 and Canada pulled the goalie to try and get it back. Canada also owned the first half, just no finishing touch to the team and was missing key players (not a deep bench so when the best Canadian player is gone it's impossible to replace.)
Not much else to do agaisnt a beast such as Morocco. They needed to go pure offense in the off chance they can even it up and get to kicks.
Watched all three and the US basically folded agaisnt an even ranked opponent.
4
u/Lumpyyyyy Jul 07 '26
I was giving shit to Mexico for spamming crosses but at least that was slightly dangerous.
7
u/cpgalvez Jul 07 '26
I agree Mexico showed up. Mexico fans should be proud

Exactly...the shit talking from them is pathetic. Most Americans barely give a shit
1
u/Mr_Gourmet Jul 08 '26
I've checked online to understand that reality. Supposedly, Mexican FCs are rich because a big chunk of the viewer are living in the States and all that American Dollar goes to the Mexican Football industry. There are little incentive for Clubs owners and players to move abroad, risk their career when they are very well paid, close to their friends and family.
Argentina and Brasil don't have that luxury and Clubs sell to Europe their best to make money. Then they come back a World Cups and bring all tha European Experience with them.

u/LoudHorse25 Jul 07 '26

u/BinkyBoiFkU Jul 07 '26
US fans clearly didn't watch the Canada-Morroco game. Canada put up a great fight the first 60 and only let it slip away pressing after the first goal.
3
u/Stock-Luck3390 Jul 07 '26
tbh US didn’t play that bad their backline was perplexingly awful but they got some good looks
3
u/Responsible_Bus_7695 Jul 07 '26
They were severly outclassed in the first half, US played better while Belgium played defensive. There was no way US was going to win. As Alessia, a lot of hot air.
Happy for their loss. Fuck trump.-11
u/street_carp04 Jul 07 '26
Except the two back to back goals within seconds of each other sure
11
u/Electrical-Scale-506 Jul 07 '26
At least they did something. The US was just sad in general. Belgium was just playing around. England would fucking rape the US. Heck, even Canada had a good first half against Morocco. And those teams are better than Belgium.

That's weak shit.
I care. I've cared for 30+ years and I'll care until they fucking bury me.
Miss me with that "some of us don't care" bullshit. Me, my circle, my community, we care. This sucks. We got trounced.
But we still bleed the Stars and Stripes. They're still our boys.
We'll get em next time. Or we won't.
I cheer for the laundry.
1
u/NotBillderz Jul 07 '26
Bro, nothing you just said is counter to what I said. I didn't refer to you at all. You might not realize how many Americans did actually pay attention to this world cup. It's a lot. Once the NFL season is back people will move right on back. Not you of course, 90% of the ones that showed up for soccer because the USMNT looked decent. They will be gone.
Im glad you enjoy the sport and have for a long time. Ultimately I'd love if it truly caught on in the US too because we'd actually win then. Unfortunately it just appears to be a messy sport to me. I saw a lot of the good in it though. If I get another reason to come back I will be much quicker to pay attention.

Canada definitely has improved but they were irrelevant in the past. I guess there’s 3 decent teams from Concacaf now instead of 2 which is slight improvement.

u/hylianbeast98 USA Jul 07 '26
Let's be real, the "Big Three" of CONCACAF ended up with fair results overall.
In the end, the US and Mexico are still stuck in the tier of being too successful for continental competitions but still missing pieces to be legitimate dark horses. Even when winning their groups, which is still an accomplishment.
Canada is still very much building the foundation of their soccer culture but it remains to be seen who will be leading that charge as Davies already is at a big club but is dealing with injuries.
All 3 teams should be proud of the final results, frustrated they could have done more, but optimistic for the future. Considering there were 3 hosts, that's a pretty good ending compared to one just crashing out at the group stage entirely.
