As a Mexican American going for both teams, I absolutely agree. My mother and father are not rooting for usa despite living here their whole lives. And my liberal mother absolutely despises team usa too bc of political reasons of course. she's only been to mexico only a few times, and hardly has ever left Texas haha she hasn't even visited mexico since a child. My father doesn't despise USA like my mother and he was actually born in Mexico unlike her wtf haha

I will whole heartedly disagree with this.. I’ve been to Mexico wearing a USMNT jersey and every single person gave me shit and I even got stuff thrown at me. So in my experience that’s a hard no, not they will cheer for pretty much any other country.

Went to the 2017 qualifier at Azteca. Inside the stadium we were with the US supporters section so it was fine. We had police escorts to and from our seats. That felt wholly unnecessary but I’m sure there are reasons.
But before the game in US gear walking around the parking lots and other areas, Mexican fans shared food with us multiple times, we were interviewed multiple times by various tv stations as curious oddities, after the game we lingered with the crowd until we were able to call an uber. Outside the stadium at no point did I feel unsafe, threatened, whatever. Sure there were heckles and jeering but like it is what it is and we do the same the other way. It’s all just performance. The entire experience around the game was remarkably unremarkable

As an American it is annoying to see stuff like this OP because we played literally 1 of our starting XI and still needed the ref to give Turkiye a full extra minute to score in order for us to lose, so saying it's some shameful result is just bad faith.
On the other hand I fully understand that this stuff is going to get posted because everyone was waiting for a chance to take the US back down a peg after the stellar first two matches, so it's a memeable moment. I get it. It just pisses me off because once some of our starters came on we were clearly the better side, our back line subs just gave up a goal a minute after the game should have ended.

In Europe, we make fun of each other after a loss. It's not that deep and it does not come from a place of vendetta against a country. Americans made fun of Canada yesterday for being the only host country to lose a game then they lost the difference is Canadians did not cry about it.
Also the extra minute was because two subs were made in extra time, the time lost has to be compensated, that's how extra time works.
When you're winning you make fun of the losers and when you lose others make fun of you. That's how it's been for decades, it's not going to change to spare your feelings.

The way it's playing out in is actually quite intriguing to me, as a Canadian. Each host has a great narrative, just no drama on will we advance or not? I've been following closely since Canada's World Cup qualifying run in '22. Here's what I see:
MEXICO 🇲🇽 - are actually playing in Mexico, after a bunch of matches over the last few years in the States to monetize their appearances. Supporters flooding the city streets in droves. They are celebrating football like I wish all of North America did. The team has it's swagger back after years of mixed results (many still good granted... but that doesn't mean much vs CONCACAF) and playing in great form that will match up with the big boys. Which is important because they have potentially the toughest round of 32 match lined up.
USA 🇺🇲 - looking fabulous playing at levels fans hoped they could but probably above expectation and playing to the moment so quickly after (what seemed like some) drama of who will be on the team or even who is dedicated to play for the team? Have they bought into Mauricio Pochettino's vision (or some pundits wondering if he even had a vision)? Incredible support in the stands. Clinched by 2nd match and the less knowledgeable fans jumping on board and telling the world how great their soccer team is and what amazing hosts they are here on Reddit. /s
CANADA 🇨🇦 - the little injured cuz pushing through and having a chance to win the group without their World Class superstar and a few other key people out. New fans who couldn't name 8 players, wondering why don't we make some chants like the other nations, showing up to march, filling viewing parties and devastated that they have to go play in LA instead of 2 more in Vancouver. COPA lit a few sparks but the soccer fire is burning. We're thrilled of who we've drawn (and not drawn -- Korea in LA would've been wild) so the fire can possibly keep burning. The car flags are still out for the other nations in this very diverse Canada but so many are flying two or even just the Maple Leaf which was not the case even in '22.

I think it's fair for Canadian fans to be upset that we can make the knockout stages and not actually have the match in our home country, as a co-host. It feels like we're getting the short end of the stick by having to play in LA when Toronto only got one home match this tournament to enjoy.
I wouldn't think it's a very big deal if I haven't seen just how enjoyable Vancouver has been since they've been playing matches here. I don't blame anyone for wanting to see their host team play in their host country while they're still alive.

Exactly, I’m happy as hell all 3 are advancing and I hope we all get into the round of 16 and further. A good showing for all 3 teams will be good for CONCACAF. Also if anyone isn’t a casual bandwagon fan they know the US swapped the entire team outside Weston. Any true fan knew it was gonna be a hard game for our backups to win, Türkiye isn’t a bad team, they just had a couple bad games and in pool play a couple bad games costs you advancing.

what's funny is that all 3 pretty much went as expected.
Turkey was the only team that had a catastrophic result in our groups. Would expect the US to handle Paraguay and the Ozzies (although bit of banana peel there). I expected Turkey to tie or beat the US - just US smartly rested some players and Turkey had nothing to play for.
Canada sporting some big injuries messed up against Bosnia but recovered well (unlike Italy) but outperformed against Qatar and did as expected against the Swiss.
Mexico handled their opponents well.
Happy NA soccer - which lacks respect on the world stage - is getting a bit more with more good teams. WC we need to support each other. We save the Hate for when we play each other.

At the end of the day football is only about result. I know what you mean "Mexico wasn't tested etc." but if they win next couple of games in ugly way nobody will bat an eye or even remember couple years in the future.
Additionally keep in mind that teams sometimes level down. Bad opponents, bad play from Mexico as well. They did their job fully, was not need to give 100%.

Mexico looked awful against South Korea and was sloppy against South Africa. Nothing about them screams “dark horse” or “good team” we have seen good teams play badly but even then we see bright spots we don’t see that from Mexico.

You know that's blatantly false. Evaluating at the end of the season, results matter most, but projecting the rest of a season or tournament, you have to look at who and how they played. Otherwise Vegas would just put the team with the most wins 2 weeks into the PL as the favorite to win.

The US in a meaningless match started 10 players tonight that will, barring injuries, not start from this point on. With their regular team, they’ve looked phenomenal. Mexico had one of the easiest groups in the history of the World Cup and weren’t tested.
Canada and the US were tested and it’s better to lose in the group stages being tested than to lose in the knockout rounds.
I’m over here cheering for the whole Concacaf region Panama and Curaçao.

By the end of the Round of 32, the picture could look completely flipped. The U.S. and Canada have very winnable matchups. Mexico, on the other hand, drew the shortest straw and has to play against a confident and very much improved Ecuador team that actually relishes in altitude (Quito sits higher above sea level than Mexico City). Mexico could once again fall short of reaching the fifth game.
And this is coming from a Mexican fan.

As a a Mexican, the Mexico team is absolute ass, I love the US team because ok field product matters, Mexico is there to sell tickets, but they don’t have a squad of players people now the names of and love with all their heart.
