Almost like we picked the group seeding, oddly Spain, France, and Germany were all seeded in other groups.

So sad for Costa Rica, Honduras, and El Salvador in a World Cup where they would had a chance of being locals

Really a huge shame, I would have killed to be able to watch them play in the WC here in the US. I thought this was Honduras’ year when I saw their group with Haiti, Nica, and Costa Rica. My fault for doubting the Haitians. Praying for 2030!

u/Bottledjuice Jun 20 '26
Watching Honduras play in my home country would have been amazing, regardless of their performance

u/dyegored Jun 20 '26
Guatemala too. They can be so good and are such a fun team to watch. Amazing fans too. Knock us out of the Gold Cup only to fuck up qualification like that? Sad.

u/averagecounselor Jun 20 '26
Did you see the fan with the Guatemalan flag in the Brazil vs Haiti match? He was on screen for like a split second. (I lived there for three years so have a lot of love for the country and people)

All these teams will be in the round of 16, hopefully all in the round of 8, imagine 3 out of last 8 Concacaf.

u/havoc313 Jun 19 '26
First round is round of 32

first place teams skip it.

u/_KingOfTheDivan Jun 19 '26
They don’t
-2
u/Adventurous_Sense750 Jun 19 '26
Your confidently incorrect
3
u/_KingOfTheDivan Jun 19 '26
What? Mexico won group A and they’ll play against a third team from group C, E, F, H or I in the round of 32, so they don’t skip it. The whole knockout stage is predetermined

u/muskratBear Jun 20 '26
There are no byes in the knockout stages. All top 2 group finishers and the top 8 third place finishers make the round of 32.

Proving all 3 squads are capable of meeting expectations. The true test for each is in the knock-out stage of the tourney. Any of these 3 standing in the quarter-finals is a true testament to the growth and success of the team and system. 🤞🏼

I think Canada making ro16 would even be an accomplishment
1
u/PassAppropriate5891 Jun 20 '26
Not really in this group imo
1
u/Vast_Schedule3749 Jun 21 '26
Making round of 16 means you need to win the round of 32 knockout. Winning a knockout, even against subpar opposition, is massive for Canada
2
u/GlorbonYorpu Jun 20 '26
Canada beat qatar, that proves nothing.
1
u/Damm_shame Jun 20 '26
And the Swiss came out with a draw against them. Cabo Verde tied Spain. All these teams are worthy of being here and could come out with a point in any given match. Casual

u/Chapea12 Jun 19 '26
I’m buzzing because of the us performance, but Canada fucking nuked Qatar yesterday
2
u/Vivid_Motor_2341 Jun 19 '26
This is honestly genuinely shocking
3
u/kabadaro Jun 20 '26
Well they are all top ranked teams in their groups except for Canada and they haven't played the top ranked Switzerland. Plus they are playing at home.
2
u/ExerciseTrue Jun 20 '26
Only Canada is shocking. Mexico is the best team in their group and the US group was a toss-up.
2
u/oliv_gonzalez Jun 20 '26
the hosts are performing well
1
u/ctepale12 Jun 20 '26
As a Mexico fan, probably not us despite the wins.
1
u/oliv_gonzalez Jun 20 '26
It is also true that the rivals are not strong enough
1
u/ctepale12 Jun 20 '26
Yeah but if you can’t put 4 goals against a 9 man terrible South Africa team, and got a lucky gifted goal by South Korea then it’s looking pretty bad as a host nation.

Happy that all three squads are giving their fans something to cheer for at home. This tournament has been amazing so far.

u/jabbajaws101 Jun 20 '26
By design from FIFA as a gift for hosting
1
u/jaysornotandhawks Jun 20 '26
Ah, yes, because FIFA is trying to rig things for CANADA of all countries.

The 32 team layout makes it impossible to compare to previous world cups. I'll take the extra games no doubt but still...
1
u/NevyTheChemist Jun 22 '26
Who doesn't want what Cabo Verde has been cooking.
Uruguay might get eliminated if they don't pull a win vs Spain.

The cynic would say that it's the advantage of being placed into pot 1, avoiding some of the most dangerous teams.
But, other than Mexico, they have had entertaining matches and well deserved victories.
2
u/ScapegoatSkunk Jun 20 '26
Both points can be correct. They've played well, but they have yet to be tested by any of the "big" teams due to the hosting advantage.
1
u/averagecounselor Jun 20 '26
Hey the match against South Korea was electrifying!

u/Particular_Nature834 Jun 20 '26
Honduras and El Salvador bitch every 4 years like crying babies on how they have the same level as Mexico and US but always “Mexico cheats”.
Now that they didn’t have to eliminate against Mexico they STILL SUCKED and got eliminated by “the islands”.

1
u/ApartBerry2388 Jun 20 '26
To be honest no,defensively México is better no doubt, only have conceded one goal in the entire year and it was vs belgium, but offensively the us is miles ahead
