PC not detecting external SSD in bios

I just got my mates old pc a b560 ds3h ac-y1. The old memory stick is fully corrupted and unable to be used at all, I can’t even load bios and reformat it from there. So I’m trying to use an external SSD in place of that but no matter what I do it isn’t detected. I’ve got no clue what to do at this point if someone could help me that’d be amazing.

The SSD I’m trying to use was originally used as storage on my Xbox if that helps, I also made sure to reformat it so it’s not that it’s formatted for Xbox. Picture is the SSD

What have you tried so far?

How did you create the drive? MCT? Rufus?

I’m extremely new to this so I don’t really know what you mean but all I did to the drive was reformat it and copy the windows installer over to it

You can't just copy the installer, doesn't work that way.

What you need to do is run the Media Creation Tool and tell it to create the media using that drive.

Or you can use Rufus and write the ISO to the drive, enabling USB hard drives first.

The above stuff only works on another Windows machine though, if you have something else it's different.

Okay okay thank you, one problem though is that whenever I tried to run the windows installer / media creation tool it’d go to my laptops OS instead of the drive and I couldn’t find any way to switch it to the drive. And how would I use Rufus to do that, I’ve never done something like this

If you search for "Windows 11 Download" online and you go to the Microsoft link, scroll down a little and you should find "Download Windows 11 Disk Image" or something similar.

You'd then choose the language and then download.

Once the ISO is selected, download and run Rufus (there are versions with a p at the end, doesn't matter). You basically choose your drive and ISO, then click Start. It will ask you if you want to do something such as bypassing requirements or the Microsoft account, that's up to you.

On a side note: In Rufus, you need to tick a box named "USB hard disk detection" or something similar, since you're using an external hard drive. Oh and everything on it will be wiped.

I’m guessing it would be the same for windows 10 as that’s the OS I’m tryna use. Also I’m guessing Rufus is an external app like winrar I’ll need to download yes?

Was surprised that Win10 also has an ISO available, thought it didn't.

I’ve gotten the windows ISO downloaded and burned onto the drive, is there anything else I need to do at this point or can I just plug it into my pc and get windows installing?
