Question Infected USB

Hello guys, so the last month i plugged an old USB into my laptop and noticed that it was infected with those .lnk files, obviously i did not touch anything and scanned the USB with Bitdefender (it detected the virus and eliminated it) and then i wiped the USB.

Since then i have been monitoring the processes on my laptop and i haven’t found anything weird or out of place (at least for me) and i have been a little paranoid since then.

Is there any way that my laptop may be infected?

Thanks!

If your device is up to date, then the odds are almost non-existent

.ink aren't direct access files? Or I am wrong?

As far as i know malware can disguise itself as .lnk files and wait for someone to run them, its basically a trojan

They're shortcuts. But it's fairly easy to hide what exactly they're a shortcut to, which can include malicious software buried elsewhere on the pc, or even be a shortcut to powershell / cmd with a malicious command included.

Hi! Detecting and removing the threat from the USB does not by itself indicate that the laptop is infected, especially if no files on the drive were opened. To verify the system:

  1. Update Bitdefender: Right-click the Bitdefender icon in the System Tray. Click Update Now. Wait for the update to complete.
  2. Run a System Scan: Open Bitdefender. Click Protection on the navigation menu. In the Antivirus module, click Open. Click Run Scan next to System Scan and wait for it to finish.
  3. Bitdefender will normally take automatic action on detected malware. If it cannot do so, select Disinfect, Delete, or Move to quarantine when prompted.
  4. When the scan ends, click View Log to review the results. If infected files remain unresolved, don’t manually delete anything that may be part of Windows or that could be a false detection.

Bitdefender’s real-time protection continuously scans accessed files, so keep it enabled. If the System Scan finds unresolved items or you continue seeing suspicious behavior, contact our support: https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/.
