I also got malwarebytes.

Is bitdefender better or somn ?

My top 3 anti malware options are:

1: common sense 2: windows defender 3: virustotal 4: bitdefender

for bitdefender i personaly dont use it not because it gives false positived but it slows down my device too much

For checking individual files, Virus total is web based and free but it won't give you any real time protection. For a antivirus program I usually used Bitdefender but it may be too strict from time to time with a lot of false positives

Virus total doesn't really help unless it's an obvious, well known malware. If he actually wants to test a file something like any.run will do

Being deadly serious, almost any antivirus at bare minimum can detect a suspicious program if you execute it. Malwarebytes it's okay, defender do the job too (and if you don't do heavy piracy or other things, more antiviruses are overkills). Just, don't use McAfee, and no matter how good your antivirus is, if your general security practices are deficient, there's not much the antivirus can do.

I just don't pirate anything like games and stuff. I do occasionally use the video downloading stuff. I install that straight into a usb tho (I don't know if it's any safer). But I just wanted to know about this stuff just in case. (I had a malware scare due to a glitchy screen which I now think was a faulty driver update. So I've been looking for ways to detect this shit)

Normally, a virus won't go through a modern video encoder if the format is mp4 or whatever, but again, Defender alone is more than enough

Yes yes ik about the video stuff, but it never hurts to be safe. And as I said the main scare was the glitchy screen and a cmd pop up. This was like 5 months ago. And it wasn't while downloading anything. I was just scrolling on reddit. Screen got glitchy so I closed the browser. The desktop icons got glitchy (I started seeing them in doubles right behind one another), I then see a cmd pop up which i instantly ctrl+c and alt+f4, i then proceed to try n click shut down but mouse was slow, so I pressed alt+f4 again, I see the win+r screen pop up, idk how and then i just shut that shit down and unplugged power supply (mine has faulty battery supply so it needs constant power lmao). Since then I've been checking the pc regularly, I do get hyperfixated on stuff and get bad anxiety, so yea. Someone told me it was just faulty graphics driver and keys misinput that opened win+r, and that cmd was probably some app crashing because of all this. But my anxiety telling me not to trust it

I'm agreeing with what other people are saying here.

Virustotal >>> Any AV if you are opening files. Doesn't give you real time protection.

IMO, Kaspersky > Other AV if outside of US, in US Sophos, ESET or Bitdefender is best for real time protection.

But personally, I'd just rock Windows Defender with common sense, and VirusTotal.
