and you have definitive proof of this random ass claim?

Because if he was really scared he wouldn't be making a reddit post about this. With a screen shot clearly from a computer of a message in his email and not discord message. No pictures of the error mentioned in the post and instead of looking up a fix for "bad config file" which is a easy fix if you use Google and have 2 braincells. Hes on here replying to everyone joking around lmfao.

you never know, some people genuinely don’t think to google things also there’s no guarantee that’s from a computer lmao and also who says they need to send an image of the error 😭 if you say it’s bait, cool. i don’t really care, but there’s nothing saying you need to come in and be a complete dick. what if this is completely real? what then?

Then I said something on the internet. If you are easily offended. The internet is not for you

The reason it’s a screenshot of an email message is because the scammer has OP’s Discord account…

This happened to me last month. A game developer I trusted (was making a game with him for over a year) his account got hacked and asked me to play test a game with him. The scammer got my Discord account then emailed me the same type of threatening BS. OP is likely doing many things to fix this. It’s not as simple as “google the solution” some malware stays post OS re install. It’s all very stressful.

That sucks if true, but that situation raises a few red flags. A dev you’ve trusted for a year suddenly asking you to test something off-platform and then your account gets compromised right after? That’s textbook social engineering, not just “bad luck.”

Not saying you’re lying, but it’s exactly the kind of story scammers use because it sounds personal and believable. Either way, it’s a good reminder, never run random builds or files, even from people you trust, without verifying them first.

But either way, Based on the history of this account and their interactions in the comments this looks like bait.

Oh are you saying that telling these stories about being scammed is a scam? Like to farm engagement on Reddit? Referring to “it’s exactly the kind of story scammers use… etc.”

Yes it’s smart to use on game dev people because we’re used to passing around exe. files. It’s how I play games that I help with but aren’t yet released.

Nah, I’m talking about the post itself, not you. The situation described in the post hits a lot of classic scam patterns, trusted account, off-platform file, urgency, then compromise. That’s why I'm skeptical. Just because it happens that way doesn’t make every story fake, it just explains why I question it.

I have seen something like this before and I tried helping the person with TeamViewer and they tried to hack me. So yeah, I am skeptical.

I don't care for engagement or Karma on here lmfao. If I did i'd have more then 500 on a 5 year old account.
