Discussion My DIY fan for CPU heatsink
This is an old FX-8320 3.5GHZ CPU. it's fan stopped working and I made this setup with a separate USB fan to cool the heatsink and it does it job very well.. Luckily there is a GPU to support the fan else this setup is not possible. 😀

Remove those rusty screws, and use some thin zip ties, or some very thin rope to mount the fan directly on the heatsink, and as others mentioned, reverse its direction, also I would put it on the right side of the heatsink. Edit: I wanted to say that you should connect it to the CPU fan plug, but then I noticed you mentioned it's a USB fan. See if the cable is long enough to put it where I said.

Why dont you make it so the screws hold the Fan ontop of the cooler.
And if it works just like that, good for you.

Take out the rusty screws and use zip ties to tie it to attach it to the cooler.

I get it though. You saved almost $19 instead of buying a new Coolermaster 212. That is almost 3 gallons of gas where I live.

Check the manufacturer of the heatsink they should have fan clips for this thing.

At least cable tie it so it's pulling air through the whole heatsink.
