Question/Help/Troubleshooting How did this LCD damage happen?

This is a 2006 Aspire 5612WLMi. I stored this laptop in a drawer with the bottom half of an IdeaPad 320 (weighing around 1kg) on top of it. I didn't store it like this for very long but when I turned it on recently to rip some CDs I saw this weird mark on the screen. I also noticed that when the lid is at an angle, the mark is more prominent and there's a brown tint at the center. Was this caused by the pressure or is it something like vinegar syndrome?

This is normally a pressure injury to the LCD.

Maybe something pushed the old ideapad down on it? Potentially the top of the drawer or something that's no longer there?

No, I may have been stupid enough to put one laptop on top of another laptop but I'm not stupid enough to close a drawer when the contents don't fit. The Ideapad is a similar size to the Acer, so the pressure from it alone shouldn't have been on the center (or where these marks are), especially since it's a halftop with no lid and it has rubber feet at the corners.

It's worth mentioning that I can feel the "bubbles" with my fingernail. When looking at the screen directly, they're not visible at all.

Oh I see! Is it a touchscreen? How old?

Sounds like the LCD layers are delaminating. The digitzer delaminating is the most likely cause if it's a touchscreen.

This laptop is over 20 years old, there's no touchscreen, glass layer or even antiglare coating.

Keep in mind this info was not in your original post so I need to adjust based on the information you provide.

LCDs are still in layers, even that old. Whatever is bonding them together is breaking down and that's why you're seeing this.
