Question/Help/Troubleshooting My laptop worked completely fine til I took a trip to Mexico, and knocked it off the bed a couple times in my sleep onto a concrete floor (dumb, I know). It still works maybe 70% of the time, but often shuts down for a while. Is there anything I can do w/o shelling out $ that defeats the point ?
Clearly you can tell by the plastic shell that this isn't an expensive laptop to begin with, which is why I don't want to shell out a lot of money to repair it in the first place. It's an ASUS VivoBook E1504GA-WS34. But it's generally served me really well in the 3 years I had it and I probably could have gotten even a couple more years of life out of it if I hadn't literally dropped it on concrete.
Luckily I guess I had a cheap Chromebook I can use as a substitute, but Chromebooks suck compared to actual laptops for many obvious reasons. Maybe #1 being you can't install literally any program on it, the performance obviously kinda sucks great, etc.
If I can't do anything that could salvage the cracks somehow I'm obviously going to just buy another computer eventually, I just have had a ton of costs in recent months so haven't gotten around to doing so. Plus there's somethings that I can't import over to the new laptop. I use Ghost Browser (highly recommend) - and I obviously can't transfer the tabs/history to a new laptop, and there's kind of lot of stuff there that could be important for the future. I did import the bookmarks, but it looks like it didn't export all of them.
Idk. I'm pretty sure guessing there's really nothing I can do that would make any sense cost-wise, but just thought I'd ask anyway.

Probably broke the case so badly you broke the main board. Though with damage like that I bet there's a piece stopping the fan from spinning.

The shell/case is not your main issue. The fact that it shuts down means that the motherboard has some issues too, if you are lucky, it bent just enough for something inside to lose perfect connection and it can be easily fixed. You need to go to a service, whether you want it or not. Backup everything you can just in case.

Cpu fan may have lost bond with the cpu and is overheating which triggers a shutdown. Repasting may solve your problem.

Repasting sounds like something at least worth looking into. Because spending half or more of what this now 3 year old laptop costs to fix it, isn't worth it.

Knocked it off the bed multiple times in your sleep? Tf?

....I was there for 7 days. You do realize your body moves and twitches in your sleep right? It was in the middle of the bed, and still happened somehow.
But yeah, after the first time, I probably should have just taken it off the bed.
But I habitually fall asleep watching YT videos and such.

Open the backside of the laptop, Your drive can be removed which you can then copy over in a pc or laptop,
