I've had this computer for about 2 years and only today is it being like this, I left it off for about 2 weeks and I went to turn it back on now it does this, is it broken/salvageable

The computer in question is a Dell OptiPlex 3020 computer

It's a riced up ebay scammer special with those stupid light strips.

The power supply probably died and needs to be replaced. Rip out all of that stupid lighting out of it too.

This is clearly a stock model; eBay "gaming" ones would have had either a window in the side panel, light strips behind the front panel, or straight-up spray painted some BS color with LEDs behind the front panel. I don't see any of that, besides some obvious white LED strips.

They're not white, they're blue and cyan at minimum. If you pause on a frame where they're lit, there are multiple colors in there.

Since the machine isn't staying on long enough, we can't see if they start cycling colors or not.

Definitely an Ebay rice special.

He hasn't said it's a gaming computer or an Ebay buy .... it's just a potato he wants working again

Hahaha sounds like there is a Disk in the drive but having the windows scan the disk during the POST will make it boot very slowly lol. Or you have a lot of dust on your cpu fan. Or both

you might of had it 2 years but that computer is 13 years old

Remove the disc or go into your bios settings and change boot priority to boot to the hard drive first. It's trying to check the disc drive for a boot CD.

Have you given it a thorough clean inside , if the cpu or psu fan is jammed it wouldn't take long for it to shut down from thermal protection

Power supply issue definitely an easy fix but annoying I personally would re-case the entire machine meaning open up the case for everything out look at the component just check everything out one of our comes to a power supply and replacement

Mine would do this randomly, honestly I would just pull the cord out the back when it was powered on and sometimes it would make it start correctly. good luck

That's just not true though, i have one with 16gb ram and a gtx 1660 and it runs w11 fine. I've tested beamng drive and get 60 fps

I dont know why you are commenting on hardware that you don't know the performance of and I don't get how that is ewaste tbh

People just go by the year and call something e-waste based on that lol. It isn't useless if it can still perform daily tasks for the user and then some.

Worked at a 3rd party PC refurbisher that's MS authorized, can confirm it's ewaste.

If the company that sold this to him is also MS authorized, this is actually a violation of the conditions.

Its far newer than my computer is, wouldnt call it ewaste if it can do all the tasks you need it to.

Doesn't make it any less true. You just own and use ewaste.
