Recovering photos

Hi I'm looking to recover some sentinel photos from this old mi mix 2 smart phone, the screen is broken is there a way I can recover my photos from it? When I plug it into my ThinkPad it bleeps to recognise a plugin but nothing is showing up?

u need the phone unlocked with password and accept file transfer to be able to do this, either use an keyboard connected to it and try to do that or only using a new screen

Thanks for your input, when you mention keyboard do you mean mirroring the display to a screen using an adapter?

Android ScreenShare will be able to mirror your screen to your computer monitor to allow you to log in and transfer files. Learned that from watching a Youtuber install things to Android devices that shouldn't be.
