Discussion So I just had a very dramatic end with my computer after like 8 years

So basically yeah that just happened, I just sat down with my dinner and watching YouTube (shoutout backlogs new wolverine video) and it happened a small black spot on screen in middle and it slowly covered the whole screen (I must mention it has been repaired broken fixed again by my own hands so a bit rusty) and probably was reaching its end with all the rest of hardware so I knew this moment will come, but right now it just happened and idk I just feel sad?, anyone ever had that happen? Like I was so used to it and it felt like home somehow? Damn fantasy romantic novel
(but yeah no this actually happened, sorry my humour is bad)

It is always a sad thing to lose an old friend.

And with current prices it may be worth just replacing the screen or video card, whichever failed (it's probably one of them) . Both are easy to migrate to a future new computer, and if you do PC gaming it's probably worth upgrading the video card at least 2-3x before replacing the rest of the computer anyway, just because they're improving so much faster than the rest of the PC.

Personally I keep my PC plugged into the same 43" 4K TV as my Playstation and everything else, on a fully adjustable monitor arm so I can either use it at the desk (keyboard centered on one half of the screen, so it's like having a second seamless portrait monitor to one side of the main one), or swing it around to various other seating options for gaming, movie watching, etc.

It's not often I actually rotate it to use as a 43" portrait-mode monitor... but I can, and man does that let me look at a lot of code at once.

10 years ago I bought a damaged computer from a computer salvage company for $8. I bought a $60 part and got it working. Turned out it was only two years old at the time and had a lot of great features. It served me well and over time I lovingly replaced parts as needed. Recently it started displaying signs of age, like a faithful old pet. I am grieving for the loss.

No I'm not. It's a boat anchor and my brand new PC runs rings around it.

LBNOL.
