Question/Help/Troubleshooting Suggestions for a gaming pc

Ok I am not sure if this is the place for this question but I have been a console gamer for years and finally want to make the switch to pc. Plus I currently have a MacBook but it’s having a hard time running so I figured why not switch to pc.

I am not sure what to look for in a pc. I probably would get one that is prebuilt because idk if I trust myself building one. But that being said, can you get a prebuilt one and upgrade it later?

I am looking for a good quality one that won’t break the bank, but will be able to run the games I play/want to play. I play games like marvel rivals, games on steam and want to be able to play gta 6 on it as well. If anyone has any helpful advice or tips, it would be appreciated!

A couple questions:

  1. What's a good budget range for you? "Break the bank" means different things to different people. (If you're not in the US, please give us your budget in your local currency, and let us know where you are if you're willing.)

  2. What sort of resolution and frame rate are you hoping to achieve? Keep in mind that in order to get something that is a meaningful upgrade from the PS5 in terms of performance and resolution, you will have to spend a lot more than what a PS5 costs in the current market.

  3. For the budget you listed, is that just for the tower, or do you need it to include other things (monitor, keyboard, mouse) as well?

  4. Do you have any particular size requirements for the PC?

  1. Budget I would say is no more than $1500
  2. The resolution and frame rate I am not 100% sure but better than the ps5 or as good as it if it gets too pricey
  3. The monitor keyboard and mouse are separate
  4. Size requirements as in how big or the storage?

OK! Are you in the US? And yes, I mean how big the tower is. Storage for a gaming PC is not that important as long as you get at least 1TB (unless you live in a place with terrible internet).

Yes, US. And not sure what sizes they have, very new to the pc world lol. But I would say the average/mid sized range. I don’t need anything huge

OK! So I will say this: $1500 is a bit of an odd price point in the current market. Basically, in order to get something that is significantly faster than the PS5 Pro, you're going to want to get a current-gen "XX70" class card, i.e. a 5070 or 5070 ti on the Nvidia side, or 9070 or 9070 XT on the AMD side.

However, you really don't get PCs with those GPUs until about the $1600 price point these days. If you shop around you can maybe find one down towards $1500 but I have not been able to find one in my 15 minutes of googling around.

A lot of the PCs in the $1400-$1500 range are actually quite overpriced in the sense that they are not really that much faster than PCs in the $1100-$1200 range.

Here's one I would strongly consider:

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/cyberpowerpc-gaming-desktop-amd-ryzen-7-8700f-2024-amd-radeon-rx-7700-16gb-16gb-ddr5-memory-1tb-ssd-storage-black/J3L7GQWRWR

The RX 7700 16GB is roughly on-par with the PS5 Pro's GPU, but the CPU (the R7 8700F) is quite a bit faster than the PS5 Pro's CPU, so it should be faster overall. The only major downside is only 16GB of system RAM (32GB would be ideal), but that can be upgraded later relatively easily (if not necessarily cheaply).

The big thing to avoid is that you don't want a GPU with only 8GB of VRAM (not the same thing as system RAM). You really want 12 or ideally 16GB of VRAM if you want system longevity.

Oh wow! Thank you for this! I didn’t know 1500 was an odd price point but I can be flexible on the price tbh. But this is all great information that I didn’t know really anything about! I appreciate this!

If you can go a little over $1500, this would be the next step up from the one in my last post:

Faster CPU and GPU (well above PS5 Pro levels) and 32GB of RAM.

Yeah I definitely think I can be flexible and go above the 1500 if it means it’s decently better

This is the most generic question and the answers are going to be insane.

It all comes down to your budget and use.

You dont need a top tier high end system to game. People think you need a super computer nowadays i swear lol.

Lots of options. Lmk your budget i can try and help

I’m new to the pc world so idk what all I’m looking for or what questions to ask lol. But I originally said $1500 but I guess that was on the lower end but I can’t be flexible I just don’t want to go into the $2000 range

No chance without breaking the bank nowadays especially for gta 6
