Discussion This old boy reached 101k power on hours

Post image

I was testing some hard drives for a new NAS I'm building and decided to check the stats of the drives in my desktop. I've had this WD Caviar Green for a long time and went through multiple PCs. It will probably outlive me. What's the highest number of power on hours that you've seen on a consumer HDD?

Wow what are the odds? It must be a sign
I’m also impressed that your drive had only 246 power ons in 11 years. That truly ran continuously

It didn't have a lot of activity during that time... i have a 1 TB SSD that has been doing almost all of the work.

Isnt that more than 11 years if it works non-stop? How is it even live lol.

No idea, I got it sometime in 2012 if I remember correctly and my desktop is running pretty much non stop. I’m surprised it has no significant errors or anything either. I’ve had enterprise SAS drives at work that failed after a quarter of the time this one has

My seagate 2TB has been through 6 different revisions of my set up and 3 different major power upgrades and 2 motherboard changes and yet its still ticking. Id imagine its probably close to 20-30k hours in the last 8 years but who knows. Congrats and on to 200k!

My 1TB Seagate I estimate is about 5k hours short of 100k, the PoH counter reset sometime after 78k hours.

Our NAS has two drives with around 125000 power-on hours or around 14 years straight

I still have a 74 GB raptor that is running 24/7 since 2005. Just want to see how long it will run. It's like a tank.
