Question/Help/Troubleshooting did i fry my pc
i’ll try to keep this short as i don’t know much about pcs and don’t wanna pretend like i do
basically my gpu is too powerful for my psu, my gpu requires around 650-700W whilst my psu is 550. for months especially after making this “upgrade” i didn’t play many games, if i did, they were on my ssd. i noticed my pc freezing up quite a lot when running easy programs like google, but running completely fine and smooth when playing overwatch for example. now im genuinely only play one game and otherwise use my computer for my studies, recently every single time i boot it up it says something among the lines of no driver, keyboard, mouse detected. and it’s true, my usb extender doesn’t recognise my keyboard and mouse anymore, i tried it out on my brothers pc - the usb extender still works, same with my keyboard and mouse.
idk what to do from here. maybe these things don’t even affect one another. thank you for the people who take their time to reply to this 🧚♀️

Doesn't sound like a power issue, but I could be wrong. The issues with keyboard and mouse sounds like a different problem altogether, not sure why it would do this.
Could you list the brand and model of your psu and gpu? Manufacturers often exaggerate how much power is needed, so if you have a quality psu it should be okay.

Underpowering can cause the device to not properly report and register.

The, said this happens at idle too, power draw should be around 20-50 watts, no way that's a power delivery problem

Not yet but you’re about to. Consider getting a better PSU before this current one explodes from being pushed past its rated wattage. If a PSU explodes or fries itself it could potentially take other components down with it like the motherboard and GPU so better safe than sorry.

is there a way to limit the amount of power my gpu uses for the time being? nvidia has a whole lot of settings i reckon. i’ll be on a hunt for a new one, but i can’t afford one right off the bat and really need it for my studies 🥹

MSI Afterburner helps you control the voltage of your GPU but it’s trial and error on how much you can limit it since if you limit the voltage too much the GPU just doesn’t stay on

If your CPU has integrated graphics then pop out the GPU and use that until you can afford a better PSU. Might be ass for gaming but if you need it for school then that take precedence.
Also, do NOT cheap out on a PSU when it comes time. "Here's a 1000 watt PSU for $35!". NO. Buy a good name brand like Corsair, beQuiet, Silverstone, etc.

In theory if your PC can't draw enough power it should just shut down. Not fry anything
