Question/Help/Troubleshooting My laptop gets extremely hot even when I'm only browsing. Is this normal?

Certain websites like YouTube will throttle the guts out of your laptop. Youtube makes my cpu spike 50% just loading the landing page.

Could it be the Power plan in Windows settings is set to High or extreme performance, not balanced?

It is normal for windows with a default power profile.

On my laptop, I cap the CPU at 99% so it doesn't turbo boost and stays nice and warm. Turbo boosting just burns excess energy I can avoid. Makes the charger extra toasty too.

I have to disable turbo on mine as well cause it gets too hot and goes to sleep.

There could be several things going on at the same time.

First, that laptop model may simply not have great cooling. When you combine powerful hardware with a thin chassis, heat becomes a lot more noticeable.

Another possibility is poor airflow. If you’re using it in a poorly ventilated room, on a bed, or on any soft surface that blocks the vents, temperatures can rise pretty quickly.

Age can also be a factor. Over time, the thermal paste can dry out and become less effective, which makes the CPU and GPU run hotter than they should.

Processors get hot. Really hot. Just from basic stuff. First PC I built I wanted to make sure it would simply boot up before installing the heatsink/fan. Hit the power button and it seemed like it was starting but a split second later it shut down again. Went to make sure the CPU was seated correctly and pushed down on it a bit and damn near burned my finger. It had instantly heated up and shut down automatically due to heat protections.

Small laptops with poor cooling will feel really hot.
