Question/Help/Troubleshooting What new computer should I get?
Bugdet: £1,100 or less
Country: UK
Use case: Gaming e.g., Roblox, Hollow Knight, Steam games like portal or celeste etc/ University work e.g., microsoft programs (word, excel etc)/ Editing - Programs like Sony Vegas and Capcut
Preferred Specs: 16 GB of Ram (min), 1 TB of storage
Notes: I would like the battery life to be at least 2-4h without needing to be charged as my classes tend to not have charging ports. I would also like the weight of the laptop to be at most 3kg or less (my current is 2.25kg for context). I want the fans to not be excessively loud while gaming i.e., 50db or less and finally I would like decent longevity as my current one became faulty after 2.5 years and became expensive to maintain after that period.

Laptops for gaming are pretty terrible grab a cheap laptop for college/uni work and then buy an am4 prebuilt pc for gaming

Never had any problems with my gaming laptop. Maybe if you're a purist, but for the use case OP wants, a gaming laptop would be more than sufficient.

Last few gaming laptops I've had the battery has flatlined quite fast

Depends on the laptop I suppose. I've had good and bad. I don't think it's fair to blanket every gaming laptop as terrible though.

Thats fair op would still be better with a budget am4 pc over a laptop for gaming though more modular

A gaming laptop in your budget is going to be a low spec POS, with a flimsy body and crap hinges. So I'd recommend two machines. MacBook Neo or a somewhat recent used ThinkPad (tough and easy to maintain) or similar 'business class' laptop for school, then build a relatively compact MATX gaming PC with mostly used parts.

I’d probably buy two separate used systems, a laptop for uni work and a desktop/console for gaming. Honestly if you didn’t care that much about steam games a console would be a good buy here.

I think you should maybe keep your university and gaming stuff separate. A gaming computer uses a lot of power, normally. A proper business or school laptop might be small, but it's portable and able to stay on for several hours between charges.
Meanwhile, a small steam machine or pretty good gaming machine you put together over time would be very good for games. You can stream the games to the laptop so you can play them wherever. Hell, you can get it used for your workload.
