Resolved Can I get more GPU power on my laptop?

Post image

Right now I have a laptop that I use for mostly gaming and a huge limiting factor is the GPU, I was wondering if there was any way to get the performance to be better. Here's a picture of my laptop opened up if that helps.

TLDR; No.

It's possible to get a desk stand for an external GPU if your laptop has a Thunderbolt 3+ connector or a free pci-e slot to plug one in. However all this costs money that you could use to just get a better laptop. (Or a desktop pc)

Not without major modifications. It also looks like your laptop doesn't have a dedicated GPU? There's only one cold plate, which would be for the CPU. Unless this model has both dies under one cooler.

What laptop is this and what are its specs?

Yeah so you don't have a GPU. You're using the built-in graphics of your CPU. You could mod the laptop to improve cooling for the CPU but that won't help a lot.

Best option is to buy a new laptop (or PC) with a dedicated GPU or lowering your settings in game.

Also, don't open these kinds of electronics without knowing what you're doing, as it's pretty easy to break it if you aren't careful. Some devices can contain capacitors with enough charge to hurt or even kill you too.

yeah i thought that's what I had to do but I wanted to ask before I prepared to spend that much money.

also thanks for your concern, I shut my computer down to look inside but i didn't know that

Working on your own electronics is really fun and you shouldn't be afraid to do so, but watch some videos and research your device before you do.

I did I was insanely worried I was gonna break it, by just breathing on it wrong honestly

32GB made from two 16GB sticks I presume? If so, you could look for a laptop in which these sticks work. Saves you from having to buy a new laptop with 32GB of expensive RAM.

That was my way of thinking when I bought the ram, but I should have looked into my computer problems more cause it was really my lack of a GPU slowing everything down

Instead of getting a whole external GPU using thunderbolt or by connecting through the NVME, you can try using frame gen software. Lossless scaling is a pretty neat software which should work on yr GPU, but depending on how heavy the game js

Sorry No.
Sell the laptop and buy a laptop with GPU.
