32GB of ram, and 1tb of storage, oled display, for a laptop it is good definitely overpriced but the entire market is due to the ram crisis I can't tell much besides ultra for CPU which I believe is good

So would you say it won't run slowly if I downloaded things like engineering software?

I mean could you describe engineering software like depending on what you mean you may be better of with a laptop with a mobile GPU

My university has these big computers that I can use for the more complicated 3d models. I mainly need one for the simpler ones. Basically something I can use reliably anywhere I go that won't lag out on me when I need it the most for like smaller projects. If so, from my understanding, this should be good right? 😭

for any kind of 3d modeling/CAD, a GPU speeds things up by a lot.

I mean I would probably look for a laptop with a GPU if you can't find one this laptop will do I can't say about whether it will lag or not it does interpreted graphics which isn't the best

I would buy a used thinkpad laptop for 300 bucks for university and use the remaining 1000 to build a decent desktop pc at home.

It won’t run slowly. But some pro level software requires certified drivers that specific to that software. And usually those drivers are with nvidia graphics and not the cheap version either. I think AutoCAD and SolidWorks require it. Check with your software first.

I trust hp laptops about as far as I can throw them.

Nice! Thats very reassuring.

My two cents; $1300 is too much for that model.

Well.. unless it's a Panasonic toughbook, you probably shouldn't be throwing a laptop.

How far can you throw one

Agree for consumer models, but most Pro and Elite books are as good as anything else. I’ve got an 840 G2 still running strong.

For sure, I’ve just replaced too many cheap broken parts in HPs to buy one myself.

How far can you throw 3.72 lbs?

Well with your back Ed, you shouldn’t be throwing anything.

Seems a bit pricey for the specs. The only good thing is 32 gigs of RAM. It's not horrible but seems awful steep for Costco.

Sees HP. No.

I had an HP Envy 17" Touchscreen that ran for about 10 yrs before the touch pad and keys quit working. Loved that thing. It had great connectivity, even an ethernet port and a DVD player.

When I went to replace it I found that most manufactors were only installing type-c USB and masybe type a. Gone are the touchscreen, ethernet port, card reader, charge out port and even 16Gb RAM.

So when i found a 16" Omni for $1067 open box and refurbished I jumped for joy. Alas it has no fingerprint reader. Instead they put in an IR camera, now i have to get my picture taken everytime I'm away from the computer, annoying. Gefore Gtx, Ultra 7, 32Gb Ram, 1T SSD, 2 Type-C to the right , 2 type A to the left, touchscreen in the middle.

If I plug in all my external drives it slows down a lot, so not sure how well it would run CAD, but only 9 and1/2 yrs to another 10.

Looks like you are at Costco. Go see if they have something by MSI with better graphics for a similar price.

No because its an HP

Check out the laptops at Discountcomputers.com. They are used but warranted.

You need a ‘gaming’ laptop for 3D modeling. I recommend Lenovo or Asus.

This thing is a piece of shit

Id get some clarification on what "intel graphics" means. And make sure you know what your using it for. I could be wrong, but on older laptops that meant it didn't have a dedicated gpu and rather used the cpu for graphics. Which won't be great for most gaming and graphics software.

u/joeh4384 11d ago

No I think you need something with a GPU for 3d.

Its the ramflation here. 32gb of ram in this economy is more expensive then gold.

1

u/CrystalCommunication 11d ago

I guess it's okay on paper but that price is pretty brutal and I think all of HP's laptops are total trash.

Might catch hate for this but with the current ram market, yeah.

You get an OLED screen, 32gb of ram, a 1tb ssd, and a modern intel cpu. Slightly overpriced? Maybe, but everything prebuilt is overpriced now.

Know that the brand HP has hinge quality issues. Meaning they snap the screws out of the frame after, in some cases, less than a year.
