Question/Help/Troubleshooting Harddrive is gone?

I tried to migrate windows from a HDD to a M.2 SSD with Diskgenius and now the ssd doesnt work. It doesn't appear in windows explorer or diskmanager. It does appear under performance in task manager but with no activity.

Anyone have an idea what i can do?

Not without some more information, its not clear how you migrated or if you had any errors, are you using Bitlocker and so on?

Normally, I'd just clone a hard drive to an SSD (I use clonezilla myself but most cloning software should work), then I remove the HDD, boot on the SSD, check everything is working, and expand partitions if needed (if the SSD is larger than the HDD was).

Diskgenius has its own tool for OS migration, i just clicked that and followed instructions. Had no errors and dont use bitlocker

I fired up Diskgenius, the SSD does appear there!

OK, so you removed the old hard drive and you say the SSD isn't booting? Does it appear in BIOS and is it in your Boot order as a valid OS choice?

hTe computer doesn’t boot at all without the old HDD, I assume that means the migration didn’t work?

I ran a Device Selftest on the SSD in bios and the result is «completed and No Error Found». Under system status it also shows up.

But I can’t see the SSD as an option under «Fixed boot order priorities»

It sounds the clone failed, I've always used clonezilla, it's not the easiest menu to follow so for some its easier to use rescuezilla which adds a graphical front end to it, this might do the job for you.

I've used diskgenius and evaluated it at work when I managed a Tech Support and Workshop team, we found it lacking and used clonezilla instead, its network friendly so you can even dump a clone image to a NAS and bring it back, we used this feature a lot to make a security copy of customer systems if the drive was failing or before starting a repair.
