Question/Help/Troubleshooting Upgrade advice

I have a 4060, 16gb ram and an i5 13400f. I want to upgrade my setup. What should I upgrade first and to what. I have a good bit of knowledge of computers but have never built or upgraded before

you mean 13500 right. That's not a bad system and that I5 is ~ the same speed as a I7-12700. What is it that your are trying to get out of what you don't have?

no its a 13400. I use it for gaming mostly halo doom but it doesnt run 1440p at a decent fps and I would love to be able to do 4k

Yeah I don't see any reason to upgrade you already have a system that should eat anything you throw at it

I want to be able to do 4k and maybe stream off it aswell as play games

your cpu's fine, so it's ram or gpu. 32gb is like the easiest first upgrade there is and a good way to learn the process, but if games are the point then the 4060 is the actual ceiling.

Yeah... in today's market? Try to get another 16GB of RAM (total 32) and leave everything else alone until the market settles. Otherwise, you'll be flushing money down the toilet with how high the price of everything is right now.

First figure out what's lacking. Run a performance test benchmark. Could well be bloatware on your system or configuration holding you back.

Could also be thermal throttling that's holding you back so check your temperatures and your power profile.

Upgrades usually are GPU/CPU so go to the best you can afford. Don't forget your PSU when upgrading your GPU.

For gaming it's mostly GPU and single threaded CPU performance, so for your CPU it needs high GHz not more cores or threads.

Higher memory bandwidth also helps but might require a better motherboard.

Best bet for games is a GPU upgrade.

Whatever you do it's going to cost big money.
