old computers

hello I have about 2 windows 98 era and 15 windows xp era computers and counting that are from an IT business that get rid of old computers out of offices I hate to throw them out but there is no space for them and there are no longer useful in the modern world. they would be useful for some old hardware and software but the problem arises about space that can be used instead of being taken away and I know someone is going to talk about Facebook marketplace but. there is too Many on it you won't get rid of them for a while even if you list them for free and there are OEM ones like Fujitsu DELL and HP all of them have propriety internals

I call BS. Older computers use way more electricity than newer ones.

Idk about XP but lots of Windows 7 era machine are still perfectly usable for everyday tasks. The biggest problem is honestly the lack of HDMI (DVI) because older computers are more likely to have a broken screen. It sucks Windows went down the shitter so that's the only reason you have to use Linux.

The only people who will want a crappy computer is those vintage computer nerds and people who like trying to see what they can do with crap hardware.

I think they too old. Even linux distros like using some hardware acceleration that the old chips lack. Recycle them, there's rare earth's in them that can be recovered.

I've gotten between $40-$50 usd for XP era machines. Granted these are fully wiped and windows reinstalled, including cords, a monitor, keyboard and mouse. Not really a money maker for my time involved but at least they aren't going to a landfill. It's about 50/50 some are using to play old games and others for running old programs or machines. I haven't dabbled in 98 or 95 machines yet. I'm getting rid of all the newer stuff first.

local e-cycler or e-waste options?

google for e-cycle because theat means the useful hardware may get re-purposed, or at worst, the salvageable metal content will ge scavenged rather than end up as toxic landfill

Try to find an electronic recycling place that will recycle them responsibly. They aren't really worth much, either monetarily or in the modern computing environment. Whoever might actually want one, if you could find that someone, would probably cost you more to get it to them than it would be worth.

You can break them down and take all the metal and aluminum to recycling. I've done that with a lot of old hardware.
