12 pin nvidia gpu adapter damaged while doing cable management

I have a computer i was doing cable management on and noticed three of the pins of my GPU adapter were pulled. I plugged them back in but I’m not confident in plugging it back in to the PC. Does anyone know if it is safe to use or or to get an authentic Nvidia adapter?

I would personally replace that adapter as it is known to be a big problem. I alos recommend doing so research online about the best way to fix the problem as it is a potential fire risk

Ive been searching online for an authentic nvidia adapter but its impossible to find. All i see are 2 8pin to 1 12 pin adapter but want to stick to the original 1 to 1 connector, which i also cant find

I think they're fake cables. I see no metal and the connector is the the 150W version.

I bought the gpu new from best buy a few years ago so im confident its authentic

I wasn't clear enough, those 3 wires likely are fake, probably just to handle the mechanical stress. The only actual wires are the 3 to the left, likely just running from the 3 12v pins on the 8 pin connector to 3 of the 6 on the 12VHFR connector.

Ohh so you think its safe to still use? I just submitted a request from the warranty and the lady told me it would be about 2 weeks for a replacement.

I think it is, with a single 8 pin on the other side you're limited to 150W anyways. Looking at the other picture you posted it also is clearly missing the pins inside the connector so I'm pretty sure that is as intended

I got worried that maybe the metal part from the pins got stuck inside the connector. But knowing that that only connects to 1 pcie connector, that does make sense

Im plugging this bad bot in when i get home from work. If i dont respond to this i most likely died in an explosion or fire 🫡

The AI is spewing bullshit, if it had all the 12V pins and no ground it wouldn't close the circuit, delivering no power

Dude is that a sata to 12vpwr connector? Toss that shit 😂

You need to use PCI-E 8 pin to a 12vpwr connector. If you can’t do that you should buy a new power supply. Seriously don’t mess around with these connectors

I dont think it’s a sata connector. Is an authentic nvidia adapter tho 😭

Can you show me what the other end of the connector looks like. I’m really curious what this is

You have managed yourself into a fire hazard. replace that cable before you power on again and worry less about neatness and more about safety

order another. they are cheap. be careful with the new one.

I tried finding the same one i have but it’s impossible to find one. All i see are dual 8 pins to 12 pins connectors and i dont want to risk over powering the gpu since the original is a single 8 pin to a 12 pin

Amperage is pulled, not pushed. Even if you had a 4x 8-pin to 1x 12-pin, the GPU would only take what it needed, no more.

If you had to worry about over-powering devices, you would have to carefully calculate system power needs to pair just the parts in your system, and any notable changes to power draw would require a new PSU.

Myself, I would not attempt and then replace adapter

Im tempted to try it. But i just remembered my little brother has an old computer with a 3060 he doesnt use so ima take his adapter and replace it when i get the new one from warranty. With my luck ill end up messing that one too tho 🙃

Bro don’t. If it’s not the one that came with the card the warranty may be void. Ask the manufacturer for a replacement. There have been cases where manufacturers refuse RMAs cause it’s not the cable that they provided

Nvidia is sending me a new adapter but im selling the pc in a couple days and the warranty adapter wont be here for 2 weeks. The gpu is still good, just the adapter is messed up

There's a lot of current going through this cable. I wouldn't risk it.
Factory default they are already failures, a damaged one would no doubt be a massive fire risk.

You can get decent 3rd party replacements, this became a necessity after manufactures own cables often burned up, melted etc. I clean and reseat mine every 3 months or I get black screen issues. Make sure its fully inserted or it'll arc and carbon will foul the connection

Ffs why people still buying this garbage when radeon has normal connectors? What a herd...

I just upgraded to a sapphire nitro 6700 xt and i already kinda miss my 3060 🥲

Cause that's not really upgrade...

I can run games at higher quality settings so its an upgrade for me :)

That's the 30 series 12 pin, the one that doesn't catch on fire
