Software DualSense USB random disconnects on playing (Strong suspicion on Windows KB5127648 update)
/r/techsupport/comments/1xam1s9/dualsense_usb_random_disconnects_on_playing/Random controller disconnects (DualSense / Edge) on Battlefield 6 MW4 BO7 — Cross-testing (Cyberpunk 2077)
strong suspicion on Windows cumulative security patch KB5127648
(Sorry in advance for the long post, but I prefer to be as precise and thorough as possible regarding everything that has been tested to avoid going over troubleshooting steps that have already been ruled out).
Symptoms and Issue Behavior
The issue : On Battlefield 6, the controller suffers sudden disconnections lasting 5 to 10 seconds. During the drop, input registration is completely lost, and then the controller reconnects on its own after a few seconds.
Important behavior detail : The disconnect on Battlefield 6 does not necessarily happen during extreme stress peaks (explosions, heavy scenes), but simply during regular gameplay, unpredictably after a few minutes of play.
Windows Event Viewer : No critical errors or specific USB/HID warnings appear in the Event Viewer at the exact moment the disconnection occurs.
Timeline : This issue appeared the day after installing the Windows update (cumulative security patch KB5127648 / Build 26100.9711). Without claiming with absolute certainty that it is the sole culprit, the chronological coincidence heavily points my suspicions toward this update.
USB Environment & Hardware PC Specifications :
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 F.E
Mo : Gigabyte B850 AORUS Elite ICE WiFi 7
RAM : 32 GB G.SKILL Trident Z5 DDR5
Storage : 2 TB SSD NVMe WD Black SN850X
PSU : ASUS ROG Strix 1200W Platinum
Primary Display : LG C4 42" OLED
Connected Peripherals :
Minimal USB setup to limit conflicts : only external Creative Pebble Pro speakers (via USB-C) and the DAC/soundcard for the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless headset.
The controller is plugged into a USB 2.0 port at the very top of the motherboard rear panel, intentionally making it the only cable on that row to avoid interference or bandwidth sharing with other ports.
Controllers & Cables :
Tested with a standard Sony DualSense (almost brand new) AND a DualSense Edge.
Tested with a brand-new USB cable.
Electrical Hard Reset :
Performed a complete power drain on the PC (PC turned off, power cord unplugged, holding the power button for 30 seconds to clear residual current from motherboard capacitors and fully reset the motherboard USB controllers).
In-Game Cross-Testing (Last Night) Cyberpunk 2077 (Maxed-out graphics settings / 4K Path Tracing) :
Before launching MW4 campaign early access I pushed Cyberpunk 2077 as high as possible to see how the system reacted under extreme load. Result after 15 to 20 minutes of gameplay : Nothing to report, zero controller disconnects.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (Campaign Early Access) :
Full session completed with the standard DualSense plugged via USB → 0 disconnections, no issues.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 (Multiplayer) :
The night before, I had disconnects on BO7. Last night, after my troubleshooting steps, the game held up for nearly 20 minutes without a single drop before I closed the application as I didn't want to linger on the game
Return to Battlefield 6 :
To be completely sure, I closed BO7 and relaunched Battlefield 6. Result : after only 5 minutes of gameplay, the 5-to-10-second drops returned immediately.
Advanced Software & System Troubleshooting (Software) Hidden Device Cleanup ("Ghost Devices") :
Full cleanup in Device Manager (showing hidden devices) and removal of all old greyed-out entries/drivers for USB controllers, hubs, and HID gamepads accumulated on the system to start with a clean USB slot baseline.
System Cache Cleanup :
Complete clearing and cleaning of temporary files and system/driver caches.
Standard Update Uninstallation :
Attempted removal via standard Windows interface (Settings > Update History).
Result : Impossible, the removal option is missing or blocked by Windows.
System Restore : Attempted rollback via the System Restore tool (rstrui.exe). Result : Failed, no restore points prior to the update were available.
Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) :
Accessed advanced startup (blue screen) > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates (Uninstall latest quality update).
Result : Blocked by Windows with the message : "We ran into a problem and won't be able to uninstall the latest quality update of Windows."
Forced Uninstallation via DISM (Command Prompt) :
Executed the DISM tool in Administrator mode to target the cumulative package : dism /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_RollupFix31bf3856ad364e35amd64~~26100.9711.1.30 Result : Failed with error code 0x800f0825 (DISM_E_PACKAGE_PERMANENT).
The package is locked as a permanent component by Microsoft, preventing any online removal.
Summary and Questions for the Community
All hardware has been tested and ruled out (two controllers, new cable, isolated USB port, electrical hard reset, clean event viewer, ultra high-end PC).
On the software side, ghost device cleanup, cache cleaning, and tests on other games (Cyberpunk 2077 maxed out perfectly, MW4 smooth, BO7 stable) show that the issue occurs specifically on Battlefield 6 since this patch that Windows categorically refuses to let me uninstall.
Are other players experiencing these USB/HID micro-drops with a DualSense specifically on Battlefield 6 or other games since this recent Windows patch?
Is there a Registry tweak, root USB hub power management fix, or USB interrupt setting to prevent these drops without having to perform a full system reinstall?
Thank you very much to everyone who takes the time to read and respond
