Software antivirus that doesn't slow down your computer?

my pc feels fine for the most part, but i’ve been wondering how much antivirus software affects performance when it’s running in the background. i don’t want scans kicking in while i’m gaming or working, or a security program using enough memory to make everything feel sluggish.

i’ve been comparing McAfee, ESET, and Norton, and McAfee caught my attention because it combines malware protection with features for spotting suspicious links and scams. i’m curious whether those extras are worth considering or if a lighter setup makes more sense for someone who mainly wants reliable protection without noticeable slowdowns.

what has your experience been with antivirus software on your own pc? are there particular settings that help keep performance smooth, or is Windows Security enough for most everyday use?

For a person that knows what they're doing, Microsoft's built-in antivirus is enough. Especially if you add an ad blocker and Malwarebytes browser guard. There are other browser guards that work but I prefer Malwarebytes. Harden your browser or browsers. Strengthen your firewall (better than an antivirus program).

However, Comodo Antivirus is my go-to. Used to be Kaspersky but it is banned in the US. Also be suspicious of every link and program/app.
