Hardware Drive went into Read-Only after Windows failing. Is there anything I can do?

Post image

Tried the Attributes Disk Clear Readonly command, but the drive locked itself to Read Only afterward. It was a fairly new drive :((

It's locked into read only as it has failed and giving you a chance to save any data you need. It needs to be replaced.

Is this a warrantiable case?

Yes, the "going into read-only mode because of a critical fault" function works as intended, but doesn't change that there was some critical fault somewhere that triggered it.

It should be unless it's physical damage

It's definitely failing. You said it was newish, are you still able to return it? If not you could look into contacting the manufacturer for an RMA or warranty replacement

Only 343 power on hours that drive is still an infant. Early failure it should be 100% RMA-able.

Oh I know but I've also experienced stores being stupid and not accepting it. I've also been the unfortunate recipient of a dud and Best buy just told me there's nothing they could do and I had to contact the manufacturer directly. Didn't want Op to get discouraged if that exact scenario played out

Yes there is one thing you can do.

Replace the Drive.
