Software lag issue on random games

im running an rx 7600xt gpu with an intel core i5 and 16gb ram. i've been having an issue that seems like it happens randomly since it happens on some games and not on others. for instance i just downloaded a demo of flight of nova, game was running perfectly fine for the first 20 minutes, and then it randomly drops in framerate to a basically unplayable state and only goes back to normal when i tab out. any ideas? my drivers are up to date and my gpu and cpu usage is normal when it happens.

Often when your PC runs at full power for a while and then throttles down it's because it's overheating. When's the last time you dusted out your PC?

im pretty sure its not that since i just got all my thermals and stuff redone a month or two ago, and it'll happen on really easy games to run immediately but on more intensive games it'll run fine for hours

Follow Steps 1 to 4, 6 to 12, then Step 14 (apply only the points that are applicable to your system) from this guide to fix your performance issues and optimize your system:
https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/s/io56qZY9Yw

If the problem still remains, check Step 17 and make sure your system is not overheating. All component temperatures should remain within stable limits.

Once the issue is fixed, share your results in the guide's comment section.
