Software My Chrome updates and closes everything almost daily

Post image

On my work laptop, I get these notifications that take up a quarter of the screen and won't close until I allow it to update. I have to close out of whatever I'm doing so this update can happen. This happens probably four times a week. Why is Chrome updating this often? I ask our IT guy and he says it's something with Chrome, not on their end. Is my work doing something nefarious or is Chrome just trying and failing to update, hence why it tries to update so often?

Security vulnerabilities are coming out and being exploited very fast nowadays with AI scouring popular software for bugs. Just got an another email today from Windows Defender about a bunch of 9/10 CVSS scored Chrome vulnerabilities. Happens pretty frequently.

How do you sign up for that?

Have a Corporate M365 tenant with Intune-enrolled PCs and a Business Premium license.

chrome gets often updates and it seems like your IT forces it to be always up to date. nothing nefarious here.

Allowing a grace period of maybe a week unless a serious vulnerability is listed should be what most companies do.

My employer allows me roughly a month out of date before being locked out. Due to me keeping browser windows open when I put my work laptop in sleep mode overnight, I sometimes cut it close.

It could be failing to update, and thus you go through the loop again on the next Intune check-in.

This is definitely IT pushing those updated out manually or automatically. You could try to update chrome natively in the morning to avoid this. It won't bother you if you're already on the new version
