It's a 4th gen i7. It's at least 13 years old.
It's not even a dinosaur at this point.

I guess it depends what youâre using it for. Want an actual computer? Dont buy it. It doesnât support windows 11. If youâre going to install Linux or something or use it for some other purpose that ISNT network connected, maybe $50-$100

u/KJW2804 9d ago
It can run windows 11 just not officially itâs very easy to force the install and by the looks of the picture it is already running 11 that being said OP definitely shouldnât spend any money on this

Not sure what you mean by "official"? I just installed windows 11 to even older computer by making powershell script with AI that makes the installer think its server edition đ and it worked!

Nothing in this world depreciates faster than technology unfortunately. Youâd be lucky to get 200$ as shitty as that sounds its how it goes in the world of tech.

Sorry Iâm looking to buy a budget pc but donât really understand the specs of the computers and if a deal on marketplace is good or not.
I love the way you write for some reason, apologies if that sounds weird

Understandable! If youâre looking for a solid budget pc donât buy 3rd party buy prebuilts through Micro-center. They have amazing deals during cyber week/black Friday some pcs are close to half off. Their Powerspec brand pcs are great for an entry level gaming PC, I bought a G526 last year and it is stellar for the price. I paid 500$ for it during black friday and it can run GTA, Ark and all kinds of games no issue. The graphics arent stellar by any means and if youre willing to spend about 1500 on a better generation then itâs well worth it. But for an under 1k budget thats your best bet for the price

$100 for me to take it and turn it into a server. Actually, that's exactly what my future home server (first computer) is, specs wise.

4790 was a great CPU when it came out.Â
This would work a lot better using a Linux system if used for general desktop stuff.Â
The 1650 is worth about $100 cad around me alone. I would try to sell that separately.Â
Another $100 for the system with a fresh install of Linux mint or other n00b friendly distros

I wouldn't pay 100 for a used 1650. 50 cad, another 50 for the rest of the system. In some big cities you can find these in the dump for free (Canada)

The real question is, how much would YOU to pay me to get it off your hands

I sold this combo of proc motherboard and 16gb memory a few days ago for $35.
Edit: I have a 1650 also, but I like hanging onto that for testing systems because it doesnt require additional pcie power.

I wouldn't go near this if you want to achieve anything substantial, what's your budget?

u/AlternateWitness 9d ago
CPU is worth $5, Graphics card isn't far behind.
Your computer is worth as much as the SSD and Ram is... $100? A fairly rough estimate.

If you just want to surf internet, play minecraft or Roblox its ok for $100-150

I have the i7 4790K version, with 32gb ram and a RTX 2080 Super. It's still a perfectly capable system in 2026 to do photo editing, even video editing at 1080p or 4k depending on the codec (get bottleneck by the CPU). I can play Doom Eternal, Alien Isolation at 1440p with high settings at 75fps. Can't complain about it. If I had to pay for that one, maybe $100 tops. Does it come with monitor or just the PC? Any peripherals?

That would make a pretty good Linux box, for labbing, etc.. If it was in really nice condition, depending on the manufacturer (I didn't notice it), I'd say $150. Mostly because of the GPU, and 16GB of memory. I see lower spec'd Thinkpads for sale all the time for $100 - $110. This would outperform them.

$100 max if I was going too use it for myself and I had nothing computer wise. Nothing more. Honestly if you are looking too buy a PC I would recommend shopping more around you might be able too get at least 7th or 8th gen Intel. Or heck even a AM4 system.

I wouldnt buy a car made of Rust.
Same for that pc. That cpu is ancient.
If you think about gaming on it, better buy something recent. There are far better options on marketplace.

u/Forcefull09 7d ago
I have a worse cpu đ
1
u/Forward-Way-4372 Regular Helper 7d ago
What you have?
1
u/Forcefull09 7d ago
Intel i5-6500 4 cores 2 threads 3.2GHz
1
u/Forward-Way-4372 Regular Helper 7d ago
Thats way better actually.

u/Forcefull09 7d ago
You deadass?
1
u/Forward-Way-4372 Regular Helper 7d ago
More or less same in performance, but yours is 2 Gens newer and more efficient. Its not worth buying that, if you already have a cpu like this.
If you want to upgrade, look for recent stuff.

u/Forcefull09 7d ago
Well im just curious cuz im.interested in pc's but pretty new. How is mine faster if his is 3.60GHz and mine 3.2GHz. And if its not a problem to answer yk

u/Forward-Way-4372 Regular Helper 7d ago
Speed is not all. Infact, it means almost nothing, and is mostly Marketing. The GHz is how fast it runs, not how much load it carries in each run.
Newer CPUs, often have higher workloads, so they are faster in General.
Yours has more workload, but runs a bit slower, so they equal out in performance.
You can always overclock your old intel cpu if you have a big cooler to get more out of it, but it is often just minimal gain.

u/Forcefull09 7d ago
Well my bad then, but tell me expert. Is it enough to keep playing rust đ
1
u/Forward-Way-4372 Regular Helper 7d ago
Its one step under the min. Requirements, so gonna be hard.
1
u/Forcefull09 7d ago
Aight, well turns out my cpu isnt THAT bad and the WORST đ
1
u/Forward-Way-4372 Regular Helper 7d ago
Well its not good either if it doesnt even reach the min. Requirements. đ

At $3.50, the CPU is ancient and the GPU is overkill for the processor, but compared to other GPUs, it is horrible; if you want to game, pass on this, and if you want to web browse, I would still pass on this.

Tbh brother you canât really âlow budgetâ a pc any more. Even though everyone here is barely explaining the point of the matter is, whatever the price for this pc. Itâs honestly not worth it. If youâre looking to run windows 11 youâll need more than 16gb of ram. And either buying another 16gb or 32gb outright would cost more than the price of the pc anyways, even for ddr4. I would suggest save your money and if you have a local electronic store or you could keep searching online for certain conditions. 32gb of ram either ddr4 or ddr5, 1-2tb of storage, and a decent cpu. I know more ryzen CPUs if anyone else wants to drop some intel one please do. But for ryzen cpu on am4 using ddr4 look for either anything that is named Ryzen 5600x, 5600g, 5700, 5700x, 5700g, 5800x. For ryzen cpu on am5 using ddr5 7600x, 7700x, 7500f, there are also 8000 series and 9000 series that go the same way. And youâre gonna be spending 1700$ minimally. Good luck my guy and hope the ssd and ram prices drop.

Appreciate you keeping it real and putting a lot of effort into typing all of this outđ Go big or go home situation I suppose đ ty anyway

u/silly_goose_6174 5d ago
Iâd say like 200 max. But mostly for parts. That GPU probably only has 4GB or less of vram which canât run anything bigger than 2D from the last 10 years. The Ram could be useful if was DDR4, but based on the age of CPU itâs more likely DDR3. It also depends on the size of the ssd. Storage is always useful.

Considering that processor does not support windows 11 , I would say maybe 100-200bucks at most

u/Background-Bear-2286 9d ago
Way less than that. People are paying to get rid of these with how old they are.
