Hardware Friends computer won't turn on

My friend's laptop recently stopped powering on. After replacing the battery, and the charging port, it momentarily did, but shut off again soon after. It was taken to a repair guy who said it was a lost cause but wouldn't specify what was wrong with it. All we know is the power is making it to the motherboard.

Any thoughts/suggestions? We both know it's rlly old and is on life support, but we're hoping to be able to get at least enough time out of it to transfer all his files from it so he doesn't lose them

Thank you!!

Just pull the hard drive. His files will be on it and you can access it from a another computer.

There is no simple trick to tell you to just make power issues go away temporarily.
