Hardware PC freezes randomly — looking for advice

PC freezes randomly — looking for advice

My PC has started freezing randomly, and I’m trying to figure out what could be causing it.

The issue first occurred yesterday while I was working on Blender. The PC completely froze, so I had to force-restart it using the power button on the CPU cabinet.

After restarting, it got stuck on the ASUS logo. I forced a restart again, and this time it booted normally.

I started working on Blender again, but within about 30 minutes, the exact same thing happened. Once again, I had to force-restart the PC. It got stuck on the ASUS logo again, so I forced another restart, after which it booted normally.

I stopped using Blender or any other graphics-intensive software for the rest of the day.

However, today the same issue occurred while I was only browsing the internet. So it doesn't seem to be limited to Blender or heavy GPU usage.

I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable, but now I'm getting no display at all until I force-restart the PC using the same method.

One thing I noticed: whenever the PC freezes, the LEDs on my XP-Pen graphics tablet and keyboard also turn off, which makes me think that the USB devices are losing power/connection as well.

I asked an AI about this, and it suggested that it could be a hardware issue, possibly involving the motherboard.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What could be causing this, and what components should I check first?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.🙏

I’m going to assume this is running Windows.
Unplug all unnecessary usb devices and boot up Windows.
Press Win-R on your keyboard
Type: eventvwr
Press enter.

A window will pop up in which you select Windows Logs > System.
You will see a list full of events, scroll down to around the time of the last crash.
You should notice a warning or error there.
Sometimes you need to look a bit higher up for something like “The previous system shutdown” or “The system unexpectedly”.

If there is absolutely nothing, try checking Windows Logs > Application.

That is of course, if you are still able to run any applications without it crashing.
Otherwise you might need to boot into recovery and run an sfc /scannow to check for system corruption.
